Over the last couple of weeks I’ve have the absolute pleasure of teaching the one and only Bruce Dickinson of Iron Maiden who are currently in Perth, preparing for their world tour. Not only is Bruce the lead singer of one of the world’s greatest bands, an airline pilot and an author (amongst other things) he’s also a champion fencer! In addition, you could not find a more down to earth and nice bloke. Good luck Bruce on your upcoming world tour!

Very interesting video on the history of the weapons in fencing. Brings up a myth I’m hearing a lot at the olympics and challenges it - the idea that sabre is based on cavalry. To me a myth along similar lines to the ideas that fencers wear white so you could see the blood, and the that the groove on an epee is a ‘blood groove’.

Did some coaching with triple M radio this morning

Recently I was given the honour and the privilege of being part of the Australian coaching team for the 2024 Cadet and Junior Commonwealth Championships held in Christchurch, New Zealand. It was a real honour to work alongside the future of Australian Fencing, and to be part of not only winning some medals, but Australia winning the overall points trophy - the first time we have achieved this in the trophy’s history! This comes at an important part of my career - I’m happy to say that I’ve now started working as a full time professional fencing coach. Looking forward to more new and exciting adventures ahead!
