The Lover & The Engineer

The Lover & The Engineer Journey Into The Deep Potential of The Human Brain The Lover & the Engineer works with brands to create and express meaning.

We do this because we know the search for meaning is a distinctly human trait, and a brand that provides meaning can be an intrinsic part of people’s lives. We Put Meaning at the Heart of Your Brand
We use research that is grounded in neuroscience, psychology, philosophy and culture and apply it to a process designed to create meaning that inspires emotional connections between people. We talk of stories, of personas, of empathy, of vulnerability. We help brands create meaning for humans.

Hi Good People,

Facebook isn't letting me change the name of this page to Feed the Holy, which is important, as L&E has taken on a new life-force if its own...

I have decided to shake things up and move the conversations about flow, ecstasis and peak performance over to Twitter... it seems fun there.

Please make sure you follow me at:

If you are curious about L&E, check out the new website:

This is a side project that combines two of my great loves - fashion and meaningful conversation...

I look forward to connecting with you in these new places!

Clare

Welcome to this place. A place where you may succumb to the charms of beautiful pre-loved fashion while delving deep into the hearts and minds of the humans behind the creations.

This is a fantastic listen - a live lecture by Martin Seligman (aka The Father of Positive Psychology) given recently in Sydney. Seligman asks: Are you an optimist or a pessimist?

Apparently - if you look on the bright side of things you may be protected from depression. And being very pessimistic could be roughly equivalent to smoking more than 2 packs of ci******es a day...

Some really interesting stuff about teaching kids to be optimistic... and post-trauma growth.

The future is bright!

Are you an optimist or a pessimist? Optimism may protect you from depression. But pessimism could be roughly equivalent to smoking more than 2 packs of ci******es a day. Martin Seligman is known as The Father of Positive Psychology and in the second of our programs, he continues his talk to an Austr...

Ecstasis doesn't have to be complex. But it does require a sense of self. Living abroad is one of the easiest ways to develop this...

Research finds it’s driven by how long you’ve lived abroad, not where.

“It seems there is a price for experiencing it (flow)... and the price for experiencing it, is acting on the information. Acting on the goodness, truth and beauty that you apprehend while you are there... And then try and live up your damnedest to that example and inspiration when we’re back here. And if you skip that step, it’s on your mortal soul the next time you go back to the wishing well. ” - Jamie Wheal

Jason Silva and the Executive Director of Flow Genome Project, Jamie Wheal, team up to chat 'flow states' and what it takes to trigger peak performance in the human brain.

“Humans don’t mind hardship, in fact, they thrive on it; what they mind is not feeling necessary. Modern society has perfected the art of making people not feel necessary. It’s time for that to end.” Sebastian Junger

Hello wonderful people.

It has been a while since you have heard from us. And things have evolved. I have evolved. Over the last couple of years, as I explored the business of meaning, I became more and more fascinated by the potential of the human brain, and how our brain and body shape our hearts and mind.

Here now on this page, you will find a curated library of research, theories and ideas alongside guides, frameworks and rituals to provoke and trigger flow states for peak performance.

As you journey into the deep potential of the human brain, you will encounter a layered exploration of the human consciousness from the world's deepest thinkers, most progressive scientists and provocative artists.

Delve deep, and you will learn about vulnerability, empathy, emotion, deep connection, communitas, cognitive literacy, emotional strength, serendipity, synchronicity, flow states, ecstasis, self-rejuvenation and more. The context is human potential. The lens is psychology, neurobiology, technology, and your personal meta.

IT'S COMPLICATED. IN PROGRESS. AND EXCITING.

Drawing from the transcendentals - science (truth), the arts (beauty) and religion (goodness)* - the purpose of this expedition is mindset growth for peak performance. Practical 'tips for success' are replaced with a framework for inquiry and a spur to choose your own adventure and find your own answers as you live, love, work, and play.

If this interests you - immerse yourself. If not, I understand if now is the time we say good-bye.

The nuerochemicals for anxiety and fear are very similar to excitement. Conscious reframing and a few deep breaths convince the brain you are not in danger, so anxiety can switch to excitement in a matter of moments.
