Students leading from the Heart
During Wednesday's PCT classes, our Year 7 to 9 students gathered together for a very special, student-led worship session.
Seeing our young people find the courage to stand before their peers and lead them with such authenticity is a beautiful reflection of what a Carey education is all about. This wasn’t just an assembly run by staff; it was entirely driven by the students themselves, creating an atmosphere where their peers were genuinely engaged, connected, and supportive.
It beautifully captures the supportive, values-driven spirit of our Carey Forrestdale community, where our students don't just participate but actively inspire one another.

Being thankful "in all circumstances" starts with acknowledging where we are. It means seeing the highs and the lows, without hiding the hard parts. True gratitude and prayer don't ignore our current reality, but rather, they meet us right in the middle of it.
We can move forward together, bringing our honest hearts into the week ahead.

Empowering Our Future Leaders 🌟
Last Friday, our Year 6 cohort headed over to the Harrisdale campus for the annual GLS Leadership Conference. Hosted by the Carey Baptist College - Harrisdale Year 12 student leaders, it was an incredible, full-day experience designed specifically to help our upcoming graduates transition into their next chapter with confidence.
The Year 6's had the rare opportunity to learn directly from older role models about staying true to themselves, managing stress, and leading with integrity. A major highlight was hearing from former AFL player Brayden Ainsworth , who spoke about overcoming hurdles and understanding that your achievements don't define your worth as a person.
Through high-energy networking bingo, balloon challenges, and team-building activities, our students returned with new friendships, inspired minds, and practical tools to be positive leaders in their own communities.

From Fuel Depot to Urban Farm 🌾
Our Year 10 Permaculture students foraged the vibrant landscape of Perth City Farm to see how sustainable design principles come to life in the heart of an urban environment.
The class explored the site’s inspiring transformation from a colonial landscape and former fuel storage depot into a flourishing, working property. Students toured plant propagation areas, large-scale composting setups, beehives, and chicken systems. This hands-on experience showed them how innovative recycling and food production can thrive even in a busy city centre, sparking fresh ideas for our own projects back at Carey.
More importantly, students learned that true sustainability extends beyond plants, it is about community. Seeing how the farm connects people through street art, an on-site cafe, and weekend markets gave our students a powerful example of how we can meet the needs of both people and nature in harmony.

Hope comes from remembering that in difficult or overwhelming moments, we are not alone. This verse speaks about how God helps guide us away from unhelpful habits and ways of thinking, and towards a life shaped by love, purpose and hope. Together, we can move forward with confidence, supported by both God’s love and the people around us.

Our Year 2 students have been busy exploring the animal kingdom in Indonesian, and their classroom is buzzing with new sounds and confidence.
Through interactive games and tactile gestures, our young learners have been mastering vocabulary in a way that sticks. As part of this hands-on approach, they even crafted their own harimau (tiger) origami.
But the real magic happens when they put these words into action. Students are already practising real conversational skills, using sentences like "Saya melihat..." (I see...) to describe the world around them. It is incredibly rewarding to hear some learners already extending their thinking by using "dan" (and) to connect multiple ideas.

Teamwork in Harmony 🎵
Our Year 5J classroom has been filled with a unique, rhythmic energy as students master the Angklung (a traditional Indonesian bamboo instrument) ahead of their upcoming assembly performance.
The beauty of the Angklung lies in how it is played. Because each instrument produces only one specific note, it is impossible to play a melody alone. To create music, every single student must listen intently and time their movements perfectly with their peers. It turns a lesson on teamwork into a tangible, shared achievement where every child's contribution is essential to the song.
Beyond the rich cultural exposure, this hands-on experience builds deep focus, rhythm, and mutual respect. We can't wait to see our Year 5s take the stage and showcase what can be accomplished when we work in perfect harmony!

Swapping desks for the riverbank! 🌿🧪
Our Year 12 Geography students spent the day as environmental researchers at Kent St Weir, diving deep into water quality and local biodiversity. We love seeing our students take their learning into the wild and discover the real-world impact of their studies!
