Abajor demonstrates the fun and playful nature of the Quirky Birds I make.
Davron uses circles@of foam core board to create a very architectural form. Add in a bowl, expanding foam and a coffee filter and you get this unique character.
I got given an old sauce bottle and takeaway forks that developed in Alizayah. Add some expanding foam, card and gems. She is rather spectacular!
I like the layers of tissue and paint that allow me to disguise the materials I use. Otis is made from drink bottles, transformer legs, glue brushes, spice caps, pin discs and computer parts. Did you recognise all these parts?
This is the βwhyβ for making what I do.πππ

Una is blind. She is creating an artwork about her injuries. It has many parts to it: a mask that documents the physical injuries; a hand and foot that describes how she interacts with the world through her hands and feet; an ear that allows her hearing to βtouchβ her environment. The back ground is what her mind produces when she thinks about seeing.
We have been working on this for several months. Every session requires me to adapt process and tools to meet her needs. A palette of colour with masking tape markers was a recent innovation. She prefers to paint with her fingers because the brush is too distant. Not including the crazy convos about colour. My role is to help her make the images she wants to make.

Dylan is making a big lizard with gelli plate printed skin. Dianne has finished her Chitty Chitty (w***y wagtail) for her mum.
Each client works on the artwork they want to make. I facilitate the way they can work best for their needs and good outcomes. Every stage of every work requires conversations and trying stuff.πππ So many transferable skills in creative activities.

Una has been working on a mask that explores her impressions of her injuries that resulted in blindness and little smell sensation.

Some of my clients working on their projects. For Dianne it has improved her fine motor skills. For Una it has been about developing her ideas around her personal experience of her injury. For Geoffrey it is about the joy of creating things. For Dylan we had to develop tools that allowed him to work without pain.
Each client makes their own artwork. Each works in the manner that suits them. My job is to facilitate the creative process that works best for them.

Judith has been working on this for a bit. Old cement pot, metal fish decor with handmade seahorse too. She painted the water and coral then added the seahorse and fish with Powertex.
The smile on her face as she finished is awesome!π

Would you like to know how I make the Quirky Birds or the textured paintings? I am happy to run an evening or weekend workshop for you and some friends in my studio in Balcatta. Dm me. When was the last time you took time for your creative self?π

This is some artwork I have been developing in the last week. A quirky Bird using found and recycled objects and Powertex. This guy uses techniques such as papier mache layers over plastic objects, postage packaging and clay with Powertex. I can teach you how to make your own version of these kind of Quirky Birds.
Or
A textured painting made out of foam. Carved, textured, heated, painted in Powertex to harden and protect the surface. Then layers of paint are added. Some of these paintings are quick while others take time but they are always fun.
What creative activity do you do? What creative thing would you like to do? When was the last time you took time for yourself?

This is what we did last week in the studio. Lots of different artists working over one, two or more days.
Each started with a collage, then painted it with Powertex. Dry brushed with white paint and finally colour.
Some arrived at 10am, others later. Most stayed for more than three hours. Materials were supplied. $30/session.
βOh boy! I didnβt notice how long Iβve been here! I better eat lunch.β
This will be going next week too. So if you need an indoor activity because of the rain, join us. Ticket link in bio or just show up.πππ

He was getting tingles and cramps in his hand so we came up with a grip that eased the issue.
