About our presenters…
Joy Abbott’s love of yoga has seen her gather a combined yoga practice and a certified teaching career spanning over 35 years. With having acquired a love of many different styles of yoga from many great teachers over this time Joy was delighted to be invited to deliver one of her favourite styles, Restorative Yoga with the accompanying harmonious sounds of the harp.

Shamara de Tissera has been playing harp since her son was in her belly — a practice that has grown over more than two decades into a vocation spanning performance, therapy, education, and community. Her harp yoga events offer a rare opportunity to move and breathe within a live soundscape crafted for stillness and renewal — whether you’re stepping onto the mat for the first time or deepening an existing practice, Shamara and Joy’s warm, grounded presence makes each session a truly restorative experience.

What is the place for digital tech in childhood?
- a topic worthy of attention, now more than ever.
In the classroom,
In the home,
In oneself, as a role-model for others.

In the news. Central Coast Steiner School is helping lead an important national conversation about technology in education.

This week, Principal Rosemary Michalowski was interviewed on Ben Fordham’s 2GB program, discussing the school’s approach to classroom technology – protecting the early years by delaying screens until Year 5, placing handwriting at the centre of learning, and allowing children to develop through movement, creativity and human connection.

The school was also featured in The Sydney Morning Herald, as part of a growing discussion about NSW schools that are quietly reversing course on classroom laptops and reducing screen time in the classroom.

For the 52 Steiner schools across Australia, this careful approach has always been part of our educational philosophy. We are not anti-technology – we believe technology has an important place. We are simply thoughtful about when and how it best supports children’s healthy development and learning.

As Rosemary shared during the interview, quoting a Victorian primary school principal: “We rolled the technology out. We looked at the data — the wellbeing, the learning, the creativity — and rolled it all back in again.”
