Performances by Shamara de Tissera and/or Swanharp. Classes for singing, harp and piano for children, teens, adults and seniors

27/05/2026
This week, Albany Sinfonia successfully put on an afternoon of orchestral brilliance spanning Mozart’s sparkling Magic Flute Overture, Beethoven’s youthful yet trailblazing First Symphony, and the irresistible colour and drama of Bizet’s Carmen Suite No. 1. From the solemn Masonic grandeur of Mozart’s opening chords to Beethoven’s bold harmonic surprises and Bizet’s unforgettable Spanish‑infused melodies, the program celebrated the power of storytelling through sound.

The concert also featured a new orchestration of Waltzing Matilda by Adam Cook, showcasing the voice of Rusty Lynch and evoking the spirit, struggle, and swagger of Australia’s most iconic ballad.

Finally, the afternoon concluded with Elgar’s deeply moving Ni**od from the Enigma Variations, a timeless meditation on friendship, resilience, and the quiet grandeur of the human spirit. This is a performance designed to uplift, captivate, and remind us why great music always endures.

Congratulations to Albany Sinfonia - to all the players, our conductor Adam Cook, and Guest Baritone soloist Rusty Lynch! The event was well received and our community is excited for next season’s performance, coming up on October 31st. 26/05/2026

“My group of 4 were all astounded at the quality of sound that we heard yesterday. Adam and the orchestra surpassed all expectations. I loved the programme choice and sequencing. I had goosebumps throughout Ni**od.”

We had a warm and full house for the opening of Albany Sinfonia’s Beethoven symphonic cycle. What a joy!

Shamara de Tissera has used the Reverie Harp in a variety of settings: in hospital, palliative and home care, with people in grief or emotional turmoil, with seniors, children and animals, and also in live performance.
She has run Reverie Harp workshops for aged care centres Amana Living and Brightwater, and trained carers, music therapy students and fellow therapeutic harpists in its use.

This session is an introduction to the instrument, including preparation with body movement for practical hands-on harp experience.

I had the joy of teaching this young lady singing through her high school years. Eve-Scarlett Trower is now in her final year at WAAPA, bringing her rich voice and joie de vivre to the stage.
