Some people don’t just remember PLC’s history. They are part of it.

For decades, Chris Robinson was a much-loved member of the PLC community — as a parent, teacher from 1988 to 2019, and Deputy Principal from 2019 to 2023.

Across those years, Chris witnessed generations of PLC girls pass through Carmichael Hall and the Heather Barr Memorial Chapel. She saw the space evolve, but its significance to our community remained constant.

Watch this short preview, then head to our Giving Day page to hear Chris’s full story and some of her memories of the Chapel as she reflects on why preserving this much-loved part of PLC matters.

FOUNDERS’ DAY | 111 Years of PLC

On Tuesday, Old Collegians were welcomed back to PLC to celebrate 111 years of the College at PLC's annual Founders’ Day Service.

It was also a particularly special day for the Class of 1966, who celebrated their 60 Year Reunion, and the Class of 1951, who marked an incredible 75 years since leaving PLC.

PLC's guest speaker, Jane Thompson (Stimson 1958), shared some wonderful memories of her time at PLC, from arriving as a 10-year-old boarder from Harvey in 1952 to becoming a Prefect and graduating in 1958.

Jane went on to have an impressive career in law, while also maintaining a strong connection to PLC through her roles as President of the Old Collegians’ Association and a member of College Council.

A lovely moment in the Service was seeing Jane joined by her granddaughter, Year 7 student Tikky, to cut the traditional Founders’ Day cake, this year a very impressive croquembouche!

Following the Service, Old Collegians continued the celebrations over lunch in the Boarding House Dining Hall, catching up with old friends and sharing plenty of memories.

It was a wonderful day celebrating friendships, milestones and the generations of Old Collegians who make up 111 years of PLC.

From the Archives | Memories of Carmichael Hall

For generations of PLC girls, Carmichael Hall has been so much more than a building.

Since opening in 1956, it has been the backdrop to countless moments in PLC life: assemblies, school services, Chapel, dancing lessons, exams, socials, plays and performances. Kookaburra photos were taken on its steps, generations of girls sat beneath its stage lights, and many Old Collegians later returned for weddings, baptisms and other important family occasions.

The Hall was made possible through the extraordinary generosity of PLC founding Council member Donald John Carmichael, who left almost his entire estate to the School when he died in 1941. His wish was to create an assembly hall bearing his name, a place that would bring the PLC community together.

In 1994, Carmichael Hall was dedicated as the Heather Barr Memorial Chapel, honouring much-loved former Principal Heather Barr (1949). Today, it remains at the heart of School life.

As we prepare for PLC’s first Giving Day on Wednesday 2 September, we want to hear your Carmichael Hall stories.

What do you remember?

Was it school assemblies, dancing lessons, exams, drama productions or concerts? Were you married there? Did your children or grandchildren have a special moment there? Perhaps it is simply the memory of sitting on those steps with your classmates.

Share your memories, stories and photos in the comments below. We would love to build a picture of what Carmichael Hall has meant to generations of the PLC community.

This September, our community will come together to help protect this much-loved heritage building for the generations still to come.

🥈 Congratulations, Nina Kennedy OAM (2014)!

The PLC Old Collegians' Association proudly congratulates Nina Kennedy (2014) on winning silver in the women's pole vault at the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games.

In a thrilling final, Nina cleared 4.65 metres, matching the winning height. The gold medal was decided on countback, with New Zealand's Eliza McCartney taking the title after recording fewer misses.

As the reigning Olympic champion, World Champion and defending Commonwealth Games champion, Nina once again demonstrated the resilience, determination and composure that have defined her remarkable career.

Congratulations, Nina. Your PLC community is incredibly proud of you and all that you continue to achieve.
