Premier's Debating Challenge Round 2 - Stage 5 success!

This week, our Year 9 and 10 Debating teams took on GRC Hurstville in Round 2 of the Premier's Debating Challenge. In what were fiercely contested skirmishes, our GRC Penshurst teams both presented compelling arguments and emerged victorious. Year 10 were given the task of presenting an argument in support of the statement 'That Australia should ban Roblox', while our Year 9 team argued against the notion 'That social media companies should impose a lifetime ban on people who share hate speech.' Congratulations to all our Stage 5 debaters for their fantastic efforts and outstanding achievement! We look forward to another enthralling exchange of ideas when both teams square off against each other in Round 3.

Our Year 9 (Team B) and Year 10 (Team A) debating teams competed in the first round of the Premier's Debating Challenge.

The Year 9 topic was 'Students have to complete a practical subject from Year 7 through Year 10.' Representing the affirmative side, they showed great effort and skill in a very close debate, although they did not win this time. We look forward to their next round, where they will debate the topic of Media and Technology.

Our GRC Penshurst Campus Year 10 team went against GRC Peakhurst in what became an exhilarating and entertaining debate. The selected topic 'AI skills should be incorporated into the national curriculum’. We were the Negative Team. During this hour, much planning was conducted, and all ideas and points were organised on a whiteboard. We had to narrow these down to three main arguments to use against the Affirmative side (GRC Peakhurst). After this hour, the debate commenced, with GRC Penshurst arguing for the Negative side. The debate ended with GRC Penshurst emerging victorious, winning two clashes to nil.

Both teams thanked each other and wished each other the best for future debates, ending amicably. Afterwards, the adjudicator gave each individual insightful advice on how to improve both their speaking and argument structure, which will be utilised in upcoming debates.

Well done to all our debaters for their hard work and sportsmanship!
