Sometimes all students need is a boost of confidence and a little direction; a belief in themselves and a comfort in knowing its okay to make a mistake - the improvement can be tenfold...

Back to School Stress?
The start of a new school year can often be an overwhelming time for students. Coming back from long, fun and relaxing 6 – 7 weeks of holidays the daily routine of school and homework can cause unease and times of stress for students of all ages.
Tutoring can be a great way to take the pressure off students, help them to refocus and most importantly form some great study habits that they can continue to use throughout the year.

Learning is not one-size-fits-all
The first thing I do when I start tutoring a new student, no matter what the age or subject, is take time to evaluate their learning style. I have a strong belief in the fact that every student learns differently - learning is not one-size-fits-all.
It has long been known that there are different learning styles that can increase a child's potential to retain information and develop effective study habits. For example: in a typical classroom, some students will process information best by hearing the teacher explain it, some by seeing what is written on the whiteboard and others through hands-on exercises.
Unfortunately given the variety and sheer volume of students in the modern classroom not all of these learning styles can be accounted for at any one time.
The benefit of one on one tutoring is that not only can we account for the learning style of each student but moreover we can focus on the areas that most need work and development.

Students often asked the question... How do I study?
My response to this question is never a straight forward one. I believe that study takes a unique form for each individual depending on how they learn most effectively. While there are common strategies, methods and practices that can be adopted, each individual needs to determine what clicks for them. I work with my students to devise their own best practice study methods and with time and continual development these inevitably lead to success.

A great quote, very true for all ages...

STUDY TIP: Point – Example – Explain is a great way to structure essay paragraphs. This method ensures that you support and comment on each of the points you make, referring back to the question and your overall conclusion about the text. Furthermore, it encourages you to develop your own insights into the author's intentions and overall message.
