And when you ask, don’t feel like you have to fix.

If your friend or colleague has depression, they will be seeing things overwhelmingly in the negative. They will be having feelings of hopelessness. They will also be feeling like isolating themselves because they will feel like no one would want to be around them when they are feeling so low.

Don’t try to cheer them up or tell them to count their blessings.

Depression can’t be ‘jollied up’.

But you can offer empathy:

“That sounds really hard.”
“I feel for you.”
“I’m so sorry you’re going through this.”
“Can I keep checking in if that’s ok?”

You presence and your concern will let them know they are not alone in this dark place anymore.

📦 We're extending our partnership with Foodbank NSW & ACT to distribute another 62,500 food hampers to international students across Sydney and NSW.

NSW Treasury Deputy Secretary Trade and Global NSW Jenny West said the food hampers come from part of $4.1 million allocated to Foodbank to deliver food security to vulnerable NSW communities.

Each hamper is valued at $80 and packed with student favourites like instant meals and coffee, plus pantry staples such as breakfast cereal, long-life milk, rice and sauces.

Siddhant, an international student from India said “the hampers have been a lifeline for the international student community and benefitted thousands of my peers. I am incredibly grateful for the ongoing support of the NSW Government.”

International students can access a hamper by completing this online form 👉 www.tfaforms.com/4866532?state=nsw-act or calling Foodbank on (02) 9756 3099 to find their closest distribution centre.
