This is the 2016 - 2017 SRC page for Penrith Selective High School. This is where you come to find out about various SRC events that are happening, and also what's going on in general in the SRC when you're curious (or just procrastinating from doing that English essay). Please leave suggestions to let us know what we need to do for our beloved school community!

A new 3 on 3 basketball competition will be running at lunch times and sign-up sheets are already available. Teams will consist of 3 to 5 players depending on if you would like substitutes or not. These sign-up sheets will be available on the SRC notice board near the accounts office and must be returned by Wednesday 26th July. The rules of the game are the basic half-court 3 on 3 rules, but if you would like to read them they will also be posted down below. Games will be run in the gym as soon as possible, so the earlier your team signs up, the earlier you will be able to play. I strongly encourage everyone to sign up and play with their friends because this will be a fun and friendly in-school competition, and it also helps strengthen the basketball community within the school. If you have any questions, ask Oliver from Year 11 (event coordinator), or an SRC representative. Thank you.
RULES
3 people on the court from each team. Up to 2 substitutes per team.
No jump balls. The team that starts is determined by a coin toss.
In held ball situations (that would normally result in a jump ball), the defensive team is granted possession.
When possession changes, the team with the ball must “clear” the ball by putting both feet outside the three point line. When this happens, the team with the ball is now allowed to score. Even after an air-ball, block, or steal, the defensive team must clear the ball to then become the offensive team.
No score limit. The game goes on for most of lunch (until 10 minutes before lunch ends).
No free throws. 1’s and 2’s (as oppose to 2 pointers and 3 pointers)
The rest of regular basketball rules apply
Size 7 balls will be used unless both teams consist of girls. In this case, a size 6 ball will be used.
If by the end of the game (around 10 minutes before the end of lunch) the game is tied, the game will not go into overtime. Instead, the next point will win.
Winner’s ball: if one team scores, they keep possession and restart the regular play of the game.
No timeouts.
No free throws.
No individual players can be ejected due to too many personal fouls. No team fouls result in free throws.
Technical fouls will be given to those with unsportsmanlike behaviour (e.g. violence, intimidating the referees). Two technical fouls result in a player being ejected. If no more substitutes are available for a team that has lost players due to them being ejected, the game is not interrupted and it becomes a 2v3 game, then a 1v3 game if players continue to be ejected. If a 0v3 situation arises, the team without players automatically loses.
All fouls result in the fouled player’s team gaining possession (including technical fouls)

Hey everyone, this coming Friday or shall I say Fri-YAY, there's going to be an inter-house championship of FUN activities. It's going to be during lunch and period 4 so if you want to join in and do something FUN with your friends, sign up on the SRC noticeboard near the accounts office.
Hey guys, this is an announcement for all the students who are running food stalls for multicultural day. There will be a meeting tomorrow (Friday) at recess in room 2. Please come as it is vital to get information in preparation for what is going to be a fantastic multicultural day!
Thanks guys!
Multicultural Day will be held on Thursday the 20th of July, which is week 1 next term. With holidays approaching fast, everyone who will be contributing to this great event needs to be prepared and ready to go as soon as possible.
Any food stalls who have not returned their information sheets to the SRC yet need to do so early this week. If there are still stall leaders who haven’t received a sheet need to get one from an SRC rep and return it this week at the very latest. Anybody who does not meet this deadline will not be able to operate a stall. We encourage anyone who is interested to step forward, so that we have a fantastic range of food available to students on the day. Stall leaders are reminded that all potential allergies must be clearly advertised on the day for the safety of all students and staff.
We would like to thank the performers who have signed up for the concert which will take place at recess and lunchtime. Any performers who have not signed up yet will have until this Wednesday the 31st of May. Musical items are encouraged to contribute to the show, as we already have some great dance groups. The signup sheet will be taken down from the SRC noticeboard on Wednesday, so don’t miss out. A gentle reminder to all performers; as has been the case for the last two years, there will be primary school students as young as 5 in our audience joining us from Penrith Public School, so all performances must be appropriate for this age group. Screenings will take place soon for all acts, and each group will be notified of a specific time.
Stepping away from Multicultural Day briefly, the Curriculum Committee has been making great progress towards enhancing the teaching and learning experience at our school. The committee consists of parents, teachers and students, so that all opinions are taken into consideration. The major topics of conversation are: timetable structure, accelerated course structure and availability, extension course requirements for year 12 students, and course options for year 9 and year 11 electives. Anyone who has input regarding these topics is encouraged to approach an SRC representative, and we will ensure that your voice is heard.
Lastly, the SRC is still looking for people who are operating clubs within our school. A club expo can take place once more clubs are available and willing to showcase themselves to the student body. This would be a great experience for everybody to find out about the fantastic opportunities that are waiting for students. Students who are interested in starting a new club or revamping an old one are more than welcome to step forward.

Hey guys.
This Friday, we are hosting escape rooms at lunchtime.
They are similar to the 30-45 minute escape rooms but we are only making them 10 minutes due to time restraints.
If you don't know what an escape room is, basically, it's a challenge where you and your friends are trapped in a room and you must escape by solving the puzzles in the room.
Our two themes will be Harry Potter or Crime Mystery. If you want to book a time for a guaranteed place, message us here or on our Instagram.
Hello everyone, if you are in a club or interested in starting a club please contact us to organise your club expo booth. We would love to have as many clubs as possible to be shown off. Thank you!
