Our Year 7 Visual Arts classes recently embarked on an exciting and environmentally conscious assessment task, exploring creativity and sustainability through sculpture. Students were challenged to design and construct sculptures of marine animals using found recycled materials sourced from their own home recycling bins.

This assessment encouraged students to look closely at the diverse forms and textures of marine life, while also developing an awareness of environmental issues such as recycling and ocean conservation.

Materials included plastic containers, bottle caps, cardboard, metal pieces, and fabric scraps, creatively repurposed into unique and imaginative artworks.

Throughout the process, students demonstrated remarkable innovation and resourcefulness, transforming everyday waste into vibrant representations of sea creatures such as turtles, shrimp, fish, penguins, dolphins, sharks, sea birds and sea slugs.

The sculptures not only showcased their artistic skills but also sparked meaningful discussions about the impact of pollution on ocean habitats.
We are proud of our Year 7 students for their enthusiasm and commitment to this task.

National Sorry Day, held every year on 26 May, acknowledges the Stolen Generations – Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children forcibly removed from their families.

On this day, we remember the painful history and the lasting impact of past government policies on families and communities. We also honour the strength and courage of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, acknowledging the healing that comes from saying sorry and facing the past together.
