💖 COMMUNITY 💖 We had a fantastic time at the Oatley West Public School Community Festival on the weekend! Thanks to everyone who came by and chatted to us, and a huge thanks and congratulations to the committee and volunteers for another fabulous festival. Hope you all had a well-earned rest today 😎

We were so proud of all of our students who participated in the festival - be it volunteering for the BBQ stall, performing up on stage, assisting backstage, taking photos or exhibiting their artworks in the art show.

And for all of you waiting to know how many lollies were in our jar for the guessing competition... there were 119, and lucky Liam guessed the exact number 🎉

🌸 Cherry Blossom Festival Excursion 🌸This week, students from our Japanese Elective, EAL/D English, and Silver and White Support classes enjoyed a great day out at the Cherry Blossom Festival at Auburn Botanic Gardens.

We had beautiful weather to explore the gardens and see the cherry blossoms in full bloom. Students also enjoyed taiko drumming, traditional Japanese dance and haiku poetry, joined in some origami activities and, of course, made the most of the Japanese food stalls!

A fun day out and a great opportunity for students to experience Japanese culture outside the classroom! 🎌

🌊 GEOGRAPHY IN ACTION | YEAR 10 BATE BAY FIELDWORK 🗺️ Year 10 Geography students took their learning beyond the classroom and headed to Bate Bay and the Cronulla coastline for a full day of geographical fieldwork earlier this month.

Travelling between key fieldwork locations on foot, students had the opportunity to observe the coastal environment firsthand, gather information and apply their geographical skills in a real-world setting.

Fieldwork is an important part of Geography - giving students the chance to investigate environments for themselves and connect what they learn in class with the world around them.

A fantastic day of exploring, observing and learning along one of Sydney’s spectacular coastlines! 🌊☀️🥾

5 sleeps to go until the Oatley West Public School Community Festival! 🥳 Mark it in your calendar, it's a fantastic event, with food, entertainment, market stalls, art... the list goes on! 💡JUNIOR THINKERS 💡 Our Year 7 Extension class recently had the fantastic opportunity to participate in the Thriving Minds Junior Thinkers Conference, hosted at Ascham School in Edgecliff.

Throughout the day, students were challenged to think deeply, question ideas and engage in thoughtful discussion across a fascinating range of topics. They explored philosophical concepts surrounding the soul through the ideas of Plato, before turning their attention to the Big Bang Theory and the origins of the universe.

The conference concluded with an engaging open debate on the question: “Is patriotism a virtue?” Students had the opportunity to listen to different perspectives, develop their own arguments and contribute to meaningful discussion.

It was a wonderful day of curiosity, critical thinking and intellectual challenge for our Year 7 Extension students!

🌟 Rabbitohs South Cares Social Responsibility program 🌟 This week, our Year 7 students participated in an important incursion facilitated by the Rabbitohs South Cares program, for Bullying No Way Week. The program focuses on building healthy friendships, respect, and understanding the impact of racism and bullying.

Through engaging discussions and opportunities to share and reflect, students explored ways to foster kindness and inclusivity within our school community.
Together, we are committed to creating a safe and supportive environment for everyone. Let’s keep standing up against bullying and promoting respect every day! 💙🤝
