"Inspiring Excellence" Education Week 2026 Principal's address:
Welcome to our Education Week Open Day I acknowledge that we are on Dharug Land, land of the Burramattagal who cared for this beautiful part of Sydney before any concert was laid. I pay my respects to First Nations People in this hall this morning.
It’s a joy to welcome you to our Education Week celebration, where this year’s theme is “Inspiring Excellence.” It’s a time to reflect on what excellence really means in our school community and how inspiration can transform ordinary moments into extraordinary achievements.
Excellence is not just measured by grades on student report cards, but by the way we nurture curiosity, creativity, and resilience. When our children pick up a paintbrush, compose a melody, or step onto a stage, they are inspired—not just to create, but to imagine, explore, and grow.
As educators, and I would guess as parents, we are constantly inspired by the enthusiasm, determination, and creativity of our children. The creative arts give us a window into their unique personalities and perspectives, motivating us to learn from them, and with them. The reciprocal relationship between student and teacher is what makes education so powerful; it pushes all of us to strive for excellence.
Our teachers, too, are inspired by each other and this school has teams of teachers learning from each other every day. This work leads teachers to try new approaches, to collaborate, and to bring their own creativity into the classroom.
Thank you to our parents for trusting that Bayanami is the best educational setting for your most precious things – our children. They are the reason that we are all here.
Thank you to our teachers for leading with passion and creativity and for giving up many hours to allow our students to shine on the stage. Thank you to Mr Govers and his backstage and lighting/sound teams for ensuring the success of today. I believe Bayanami is one of the best Primary schools in NSW because of the staff I have and the community we serve. Have a wonderful morning and a reminder that after this concert our children will be waiting for your visit in their classroom. You are more than welcome to stay and join them.
