Parents often think cooking with kids means handing over the whole recipe.
It doesn’t.
A 1 Star Cook can build confidence with simple foundation skills like measuring, stirring, whisking, scraping, sifting and mixing wet and dry ingredients.
These little jobs matter because they teach kids how to follow instructions, use their hands, focus on one step at a time and feel genuinely useful in the kitchen.
Start small.
Let them succeed.
Then build from there.
Before kids can bake independently, they need these tiny-but-mighty skills.

If cooking with kids feels like it will end in flour on the floor and you questioning all your life choices, start smaller.
A 1 Star Cook doesn’t need to make dinner.
They can start with simple jobs like washing fruit and veggies, wiping the bench, washing small items and packing ingredients away.
These might look basic, but they teach kids something huge:
Cooking includes responsibility.
This is how they become more confident without overwhelming them — or you.
Your child doesn’t need to cook dinner to start becoming useful in the kitchen.

How to know your junior cook is growing in their cooking skills?
You’ll see by their passion to get involved in all things food. It might be a small sign at the start - asking to help you snip herbs, crack an egg or mesure the flour.
Then you’ll see them flicking through your recipe book for something they can make.
Then after the dust has settled - you’ll walk in and see them standing at the sink washing up.
The Kids Cooking CLub Skill tracker sheet will have lots of ticks on it, showing what they’ve learned.
