✏️Trivia Night Recap ✨
Thank you to all who joined us for our Trivia Night! There were some tough questions but good competition with our top team winning an esteemed YOCHI VOUCHER. A big thank you to our events coordinators Sadhvi and Charlie who made this night possible.
If you’d like to get more involved with EWB we offer volunteering opportunities through Metroneering/Regioneering and Maths Without Limits Tutoring. More info is available through our bio!
Answers to the 5 bonus questions you ask?
1. How many Lego pieces to reach the moon?
The average distance from Earth to the Moon is about:
384,400 km = 384,400,000 meters
Height of a 1×1 brick ≈ 9.6 mm = 0.0096 meters
384,400,000 m/0.0096 m/brick ≈40,041,666,667 bricks
≈ 40 billion bricks
2. How many AFL footballs can fit in the MCG?
Typical rough dimensions of the MCG:
• Length ≈ 170 m
• Width ≈ 140 m
• Average height ≈ 40 m
• Treat it as an elliptical cylinder:
• Round it → ~750,000 m³
An AFL ball is roughly an elongated ellipsoid.
• one ball ≈ 0.005 m³
Step 4: Number of footballs
450,0000/005=90,000,000 footballs (90 million)
3. How many cacao beans does it take to make a pound of finished chocolate?
* 1 pound of chocolate ≈ 454 grams
* A dried bean from Theobroma cacao is typically:
* 1–1.5 g per bean
* So usable cacao per bean:
* 1.2×0.8=0.96 g
* Number of beans: 454/0.96≈473 beans
4. How many cups of coffee cups drank in Melbourne
• ~5 million people
Step 2: Coffee drinkers
Assume:
• ~70% of people drink coffee
5,000,000×0.7=3,500,000 coffee drinkers
Step 3: Cups per person
Average consumption:
• ~1.5 cups per day per drinker
answer: 5.25 million cups per day
5. 1623 Jellybeans

We’re back with more volunteering opportunities!!!
Our school outreach programs including Metroneering, Regioneering, and Maths Without Limits are the easiest and most rewarding programs to get involved in the club. No experience is required, just a passion for inspiring young students!
Venture out to Primary Schools 30min from Melbourne Uni and run a series of one-hour workshops with a group of 3-4 enthusiastic EWB vollies. The session starts with a presentation about what engineering is, and then focusing on a specific type of engineering in a hands-on activity.
Spots are LIMITED so GET IN QUICK. You’ll be placed in a WhatsApp group chat which will tell you where to meet and also provides a platform to communicate with your team members.
This term we will be conducting workshops at:
⭐️ Banyule Primary School | Monday 27th April | 8:30am - 1pm | Safe Structures
⭐️ Our Lady of the Nativity Primary School | Tuesday 5th May | 8:30am - 1:30pm | Prosthetic Leg
⭐️ Flemington Primary School | Thursday 7th May | Time: TBC | Clean Water
⭐️ Clifton Hill Primary School | Monday 11th May | 11:30am - 3:20pm | Safe Structures
⭐️ Ormond Primary School | Thursday 14th May | 8:30am - 2pm | Safe Structures
📍 You are welcome to sign up for multiple volunteering days.
📍 Longer break but we will still have access to the teaching room throughout to study or focus on something else, if you are able stay for the whole day.
This sounds fun I know… so what are you waiting for? Sign up below to secure YOUR spot⬇
