The 24 hour study space trial is launching NEXT WEEK

From the 1st to the 9th of June, all 5 floors of the ERC library and the open areas of building 168 will be accessible to all University of Melbourne students with their student ID cards.

This includes:
- Open study areas
- Booths and project rooms
- The Grad study space on level 3 (only for post-grad students)
- Student printers
- Vending machines, including with snacks, drinks and the new Flying Turtle vending machine for coffees
- Microwaves and hot water taps in the UMSU Building via the bridge
- The extended hours will not extend to the swipe access areas of Building 168, including level 2 and the Autonomous Spaces on level, which will remain locked overnight as per their usual operating hours.

Welcome to 2026! Whether you are a new student or have been around for a year or two, UMSU Education is here for you.

We are two of your 2026 officers, from Education Public and .afa from Education Academic.

At the end of the day, UMSU has always been about empowering students to share their experiences and advocate for change. The education department, through both of it's arms, is at the centre of it all. Whether you want to get involved in writing policy, collecting data, or organising students in events and collectives; there is something for everyone.

Follow the link in the bio to find our department expression of interest form! We will be in touch with you to chat about what you want to do.

Countless Education Action and Coffee Collectives later, here we are at the end. โ˜•๏ธ Never would we have thought weโ€™d actually be able to successfully advocate for a 24/7 Library Trial ๐Ÿ“š, for the Uni to actually take action on poor End of Subject Survey results, appear at a Senate inquiry into Cults on Campus, and fight for special consideration changes (albeit still in a work in progress) ๐Ÿ˜† Of course, thereโ€™s so much we would have liked to accomplishโ€ฆ

We must acknowledge a lot of our work and events would not have been possible without the generous efforts of our volunteers. This year has shown us that Student Unionism is at its strongest and can actually make an impact when we gather a collective effort of people who care ๐Ÿฅฐ

The Education Department is a small one and has been traditionally been more overlooked and behind the scenes - but we hope youโ€™ve had a chance to snag some free food at our events or participate in our campaigns (I know weโ€™ve done a lot of surveys), and if youโ€™re seeing this post, at least you have now been enlightened about our existence!

Public transport is not always accessible to everyone, and unfortunately not even our Graduate students receive concession fares. If youโ€™re facing disadvantage, please feel free to apply for a travel pass using the instructions in the post.

Please remember a limited amount of passes are available, so our Legal team might not be able to accomodate every request, but please reach out to them if you need any other forms of assistance!๐Ÿšƒ๐ŸšŠ

๐Ÿ“ฃHave your say on academic issues - join the Student Representative Network today! ๐Ÿ—ฃ๏ธ

Have you ever wondered how course decisions are made? How assessments are decided? Have you ever had issues with any of those things and wondered if thereโ€™s a way to change them? The Student Representative Network is the right place for you.

As part of the SRN, students sit as voting representatives on University committees and have a say in all the decisions made. This is a great opportunity for students who care about their education to get more involved in their University experience, have a say, and enact change.

We want to hear from you - applications close on Thursday 13th Nov. โœ‹๐Ÿพ

Find out more and apply using the form in the website below!
