The humble air fryer.

Fast dinners, crispy chips… and one of the newer burn hazards quietly sitting on kitchen benches everywhere.

While we see this as a useful appliance, toddlers see:
👀 buttons
👀 handles
👀 something interesting at perfect grabbing height

Burns don’t need hours. They literally need seconds,

Some things to think about with air fryers…
The hot basket.
The steam when opened.
The outside surface.
The dangling cord.

These are the kinds of everyday hazards parents don’t always think about until after something happens.

So this is your little reminder:
🔥 Keep appliances pushed back
🔥 Watch cords
🔥 Give hot baskets space to cool
🔥 Know what to do if a burn happens
(That’s cool running water for 20 minutes, by the way)

Save this one. Air fryers aren’t going anywhere anytime soon.

Today is Thank a First Responder Day 🧡

A day recognising the people who show up in moments most of us hope we never experience.

For Emergcare's Dan and Hendrik, first responder life has meant years of night shifts, emergency calls, difficult moments, and supporting people through some of the hardest days of their lives.

Those experiences shape what Emergcare is today.

The way we teach.
The way we communicate.
The way we help people feel calm instead of overwhelmed.

First aid isn’t just about information, it’s really about what happens when adrenaline kicks in and someone needs help.

So today, we say thank you.

To the paramedics, nurses, police, firefighters, SES volunteers and emergency workers who continue to show up for their communities every single day and to their families beside them.

Burns Awareness Month is a timely reminder that some of the biggest winter burn hazards are sitting in our homes right now and they’re probably not the most obvious ones either.

The everyday winter things we use constantly:
🔥 Hot water bottles
🔥 Wheat bags
🔥 Heaters
🔥 Fireplaces
🔥 Baths that felt “fine” to an adult

The thing people often don’t realise is that children’s skin burns much faster than adult skin because it’s thinner and more delicate.
That’s why something warm to us can be very hot to them.

So this is your winter reminder:
✅ Check bath temperatures
✅ Keep heaters out of reach
✅ Never place hot water bottles directly onto skin
✅ Be careful with heated wheat bags
✅ And know your burn first aid
Cool running water for 20 minutes. Every time.

Someone’s crying.
Someone else is yelling, “Where’s the first aid kit?”

You finally find it buried in the cupboard behind the half-open Panadol and old sunscreen bottles…only to unzip it and spend the next minute digging through loose bandages, empty wrappers and things that definitely aren’t where they should be.

That’s exactly why we created ours differently. In a real emergency, you don’t need more chaos.

You need to open the kit and immediately know:
👉 where the gloves are
👉 where the cold pack is
👉 where the dressings are
👉 where literally everything is

Our kits are designed by paramedics and nurses who know what those moments actually feel like.

Clear compartments.
Proper organisation.
Practical equipment.
No filler. No junk. No frantic rummaging.
Just a first aid kit that actually helps you stay calm when things around you aren’t.

And honestly? Once you’ve used one, there’s no going back.

You don’t usually think “choking hazard” when you look at everyday things around the house.
That’s the problem. Because most of the time, it’s not the obvious stuff. It’s the small, innocent, easy-to-miss items that end up in little hands… and then mouths.

And it happens fast.

One minute they’re playing.
The next, everything goes quiet.

This isn’t about fear…it’s about awareness.

Take a minute to swipe through and refresh your memory on the things that can pose a risk. Knowing what to look out for is half the battle.
Save this. Share it with someone who has little ones. It’s one of those things you don’t think about… until you really need to.

Button batteries can cause serious internal burns in as little as two hours if swallowed by a child. They’re found in many everyday household items - from toys and remotes to key fobs and musical cards.

If you suspect a child has swallowed a button battery:

❌ Don’t make them vomit
📞 Call 000 immediately or go straight to the nearest emergency department

Knowing how to respond in those first critical moments can make all the difference. Emergcare's child and baby first aid course can help you feel more prepared and confident in an emergency - book here: https://emergcare.com.au/courses/paediatric-infant-cpr-course/

This week is allergy awareness week and here’s something that might surprise you…

1 in 10 Australian infants develop a food allergy.

That’s not rare.
That’s every playgroup, every daycare, every birthday party.

For a lot of families, allergies aren’t something “other people deal with” anymore…they’re part of everyday life and while most reactions are mild, some aren’t.

So what can you actually do?
✔️ Know the early signs (hives, swelling, vomiting, cough, changes in breathing)
✔️ Don’t “wait and see” if something feels off
✔️ Have a plan, especially if your child has a known allergy
✔️ Make sure carers, family and friends know what to look for too

When it comes to allergic reactions, things can change quickly so knowing what to do in those first few minutes matters.

If you’re not 100% confident on recognising anaphylaxis or using an EpiPen, that’s exactly what we teach in our programs.
Book a course and walk away knowing you could actually handle it if you needed to.

There’s first aid kits and then there’s this. The crème de la crème… the bees knees… the king of the castle!

…and we don’t just say that because it’s our product. We say it (with conviction) because we honestly believe it. So much thought has gone into providing a product that we KNOW parents will need and love.

For those who like things organised, you’re going to fall in love instantly. The compartments (all labelled) house the products you need. In those moments of panic, there’s no need to rummage through a disorganised mess. You go straight to what you need.

Have we convinced you yet?

Hot drinks cause more scald injuries in Australian children under 2 than almost anything else. A freshly made tea or coffee is still dangerously hot up to 30 minutes after being made and a toddler can pull it off the edge of a bench in seconds.

The rule is simple but it saves lives:
Cool running water for 20 minutes. That's it. NOT ice. NOT butter. NOT toothpaste. NOT yoghurt (yes, really… we've heard them all).

These old-school remedies can actually make the burn worse by trapping heat or causing infection.

Step-by-step:
1️⃣ Remove clothing and jewellery near the burn (unless it's stuck to the skin)
2️⃣ Cool under cool (not cold) running water for a full 20 minutes - set a timer
3️⃣ Cover loosely with cling wrap or a clean cloth
4️⃣ Seek medical attention for anything larger than a 20-cent coin, on the face/hands/genitals, or if your child is under 12 months
5️⃣ Call 000 for severe burns. A child's skin is thinner and burns deeper and faster than adult skin. What feels mild to you can be a serious injury for them.

Would you know exactly what to do in those first moments?

That's exactly what we teach in our courses. Book now: https://emergcare.com.au/first-aid-courses/

Today is International Nurses Day and for us, it’s a chance to recognise the incredible nurses who are part of the Emergcare team.
Jess, Katie, Christine, Danielle, Sarah and Emma… thank you.

Thank you for the care you bring into every room. For the patience, the calm, the reassurance. For the way you take complex, high-pressure situations and make them feel understandable and manageable for others.

You’ve worked on the frontlines. You’ve supported families through some of their hardest moments and now, you take that experience and pass it on in a way that genuinely makes a difference.

Not just teaching what to do but helping people feel like they can do it. That’s not something you learn from a textbook. That’s something you carry with you.

We’re incredibly lucky to have you as part of our team.

HAPPY INTERNATIONAL NURSES DAY!
