☝ One thing we've noticed over the years...

Almost every Adult Learner who joins MLWR shares one of two thoughts:

"I wish I'd never stopped."
Or...
"I wish I'd started earlier."

🥳 It's amazing how music stays with us.

Even after years - or decades - away from an instrument, so much begins to come back. Not just the notes, but the enjoyment, the familiarity and the feeling of making music again.

💡Learning music is wonderful for our brain at any age but even more importantly, it brings joy!

Our philosophy has always been simple...

🎵 It's never too early, and it's never too late.

Our oldest beginner so far was 87.

They loved learning music, but what they loved most was finally giving themselves the opportunity to do something they'd always wanted to do.

✅ So, if your instrument has been sitting closed for years...
Maybe today is the day to open the case.

Maybe it’s time to pick up an instrument again? 🎻

A new survey commissioned by London Concertante found that 34% of adults regret giving up music; that’s around 19 million people.

This comes as provisional figures predict that only 4,635 students studied for music A-Level in England in 2026, down 4.9% from 2025 and 51% since 2008.

🎵 Something teachers don't talk about enough...
..Students leave.

One of the most beautiful parts of teaching is watching students grow. One of the hardest is knowing when it's time to say goodbye.

Recently, a student who was finishing with MLWR said to me (Teacher Rose),

"I might forget what you taught me, but I'll never forget you."

I replied,

"Because you remember me, you'll remember what I taught you. The two are linked in the one experience."

I've thought about that conversation a lot since.

It reminded me that learning is never just about the content. What we teach is so closely connected to how we teach it, and the relationships we build along the way.

Thank you to the families who support these goodbyes with such care. Teaching students to finish one chapter with gratitude before beginning the next is a lesson in itself.

🎶 The moments between the music... 🎶

While recital day is often remembered for the performances, some of the most meaningful moments happen in between.

* The conversations before walking onto the stage.
* The proud smiles from families & loved ones.
* The friendships being formed.
* The students encouraging one another.
* The laughter, excitement and celebrations shared throughout the afternoon.

One of the things we love most about recital day is seeing our community come together to support, encourage and celebrate one another. 💛

🎶 What an afternoon! 🎶

Our Annual Recital 2026 was a beautiful celebration of the many unique musical journeys taking place within our MLWR community. 💛

From choosing a piece to sharing it with others, the recital journey is filled with learning that extends far beyond the music itself.

* Students set goals.
* They practised.
* They problem-solved.
* They worked through challenges.
* They learned to trust themselves.
* They discovered they could do things they once thought were difficult.

For some students, the goal was performing in front of an audience for the very first time.

For others, it was learning a more challenging piece, performing independently, sharing a composition they had written themselves, or simply finding the courage to give it a go.

Along the way they developed:

✨ confidence
✨ dedication and resilience
✨ musical growth and listening skills
✨ planning and goal-setting skills

Whether they chose to celebrate their goal through an in-class performance or on the recital stage, every student chose, learned, improved, and achieved something meaningful.

That is what recital is really about.

We are so proud of every learner and the journey they've been on this year. 🎹💛
