I recently had a chance to take one of the new Suex VR Voyager scooters for a dive around Port Noarlunga Reef and here are my thoughts, of the scooter it. Stay tuned for a comparison between the Suex VR and my Dive-X Blacktip

Overall I really like the Suex VR Voyager. It is very small, light and compact making it a breeze to handle above water. Weight is about 11kgs, so it wasn’t a chore to take down to the water. It has a very nice solid carry handle centrally located on top, so it’s well balanced to carry.

It was trimmed and neutrally buoyant underwater straight out the box. The dual handle and simple trigger mechanism made it intuitive and easy to use, and squeezing the trigger meant instant power, no lag like some other scooters I’ve used. There is a cruise control trigger lock, which is very handy to use, it is simple to activate and deactivate.

It has a speed control dial, meaning you can speed match other DPVs, or dial it right up for some fun!

I dived it for about an hour, on the trigger almost constantly, in a pair of BM cylinders with a Choptima rebreather and never came close to battery warnings and never felt I didn’t have enough thrust.

The VR Voyager is the travel friendly version, shipping in a lovely travel case with airline friendly batteries. The Quantum version, while cheaper, has one large battery, longer run time and isn’t air travel friendly.

Burn time at cruise speed is 130mins for the Voyager and to 220mins for the Quantum.

I think these would make fantastic scooters in SA, running around the whole of Port Noarlunga reef, checking out the sea caves around Second Valley and Rapid Bay and for easily diving the Dredge, barge and surrounding reef. They are small and easily handled on a boat. The price point is also quite attractive.

I don’t sell these, I just like provide honest reviews on kit. But if you’d like to see (or have a play with) the new Suex VR scooter, contact Warrick at Divers Service / Southern Scuba Clinic

I will be down Mount Gambier this weekend the 20/21 June for anyone who’d like to have a look up close, or even take it for a spin in Little Blue.

I can run SDI & TDI DPV courses as well as try dives or demo days.
