We are excited to share the wonderful journey we have been on over the past few weeks with Harmony week, a time to celebrate diversity and belonging, from there we embraced the beauty of a Eid learning about reflection, gratitude and community. Next week will be stepping into Easter celebrations.
Across these three weeks our goal has
been to help the children understand belonging in different communities, fostering respect for themselves and others. We have explored the idea that despite our different traditions we come together in similar ways through good food and being surrounded by family and friends. .

Theme: Harmony – “You Can’t Judge a Box by Its Cover”

Activity Summary:
Children were presented with two boxes — one bright and shiny, the other plain. They were asked to choose which box they thought had the best thing inside. Most children chose the shiny box, but both boxes contained the same item.

Discussion:
After the reveal, we talked about how people can be like those boxes — we can’t always tell what someone is like just by looking at them. We explored how it’s important to get to know others on the inside before making judgments.

Learning Focus:

Understanding that everyone is unique and valuable.
Recognizing that appearances don’t show what’s inside.
Finding similarities and shared interests with others.
Building empathy and kindness in relationships.
we extended this topic by
Pairing children up to share something special about themselves.
Reading stories about friendship and discuss what makes a good friend.
Questioning each other to find out things we have in common.
This approach helps children connect the concept of harmony with kindness, inclusion, and understanding.

“Every child is an artist”

Our featured artist of the term is Pablo Picasso. We talked about Surrealism and cubism and then the children had great fun turning photos of themselves into a Picasso inspired artwork.

We have been reading books about making soup. The children have been planting our veggie garden this week and we have chosen to plant the ingredients for a winter soup. When we harvest them we will make bread and butter as well. The children love caring for the plants they grow and it makes them much more inclined to eat the vegetables.

Music prop boxes are always available on our shelves to promote spontaneous practise of the songs and poetry we have been learning. The children have been using them frequently and gaining confidence in their independence.
