👟Let’s leap into September. Children leap by taking off from one foot and landing on the opposite foot. Leaping helps to build coordination, strength and confidence. You can help children learn to leap through play, obstacle courses and imaginative games!

Our Play Move Improve teachers draw hopscotch paths at classroom doors, and here's why.

Every morning, I watch kids arrive dysregulated from car rides, rushed breakfasts, and separation anxiety. They hop their way into class, and by the time they reach the door, something has shifted.

Their breathing has deepened. Their bodies have found rhythm. Their nervous systems have reset because movement regulates us before words ever can.

Every hop is building brain connections needed for reading. Every "wait your turn" moment is strengthening impulse control. Every giggle is creating community.

But here's what really got me thinking - while kids are regulating through that hopscotch path, what are WE doing to regulate ourselves?

We stand there watching, feeling our own stress from the morning rush, the endless to-do list, the challenging day ahead.

What if we also joined in to the hopscotch path during these overwhelming moments?

I've created a quick tip sheet that breaks down the neuroscience behind this simple game. Download the free "Why Hopscotch Matters" handout here - https://drive.google.com/file/d/1lF8PHJg_XIM3b-pMSO_H9EcwOZJXxOSs/view?usp=sharing

Want more support with movement-based regulation strategies for educators too? There's a full course available for those ready...
