He didn't need more worksheets. He needed his brain and body working together.

An 11-year-old boy was writing when I arrive for a movementbased therapy session.
His story was full of great ideas—but many words were spelt exactly as they sounded.

Koala = kuas. Or leaves = leefs

Instead of reaching for another spelling list, we changed the way his brain processes and sensed information, to support his learning.

✅ Brain Gym PACE to get his brain and body ready.
🥊 Boxing bag with bright letters while crossing the midline and spelling words from his own story.
✍️ Whiteboard writing.
🚶 Cross Crawl to help lock the learning in.
🖐️ Theraputty, beanbags and conversation to keep practising in a calm, regulated state.

By the end of the session, he was confidently spelling a word that had felt too hard at the start.

The goal isn't to make children try harder.

It's to help their brain organise information more effectively.

When we slow things down, add movement and engage the sensory system, learning often becomes clearer.

Movement isn't a break from learning. Sometimes it's the missing piece.

Sound weird or sound about right?

As a Developmental Educator, we are continually working with people living with disability and providing opportunities to build skills. These include thinking for oneself and being as autonomous as possible..

One guy who is autistic has been unwell ( flu) which created him to isolate for a couple of weeks.

So when we met up recently his energy was low but he was able to move around. Doing BRAINGYM mo ves and activities was possible so I guided him through a few to help His anxiety and think a little about his experience ..before, during and after this bout of sickness.

And I mentioned WELLNESS and he was open to that discussion.

And to my delight , he came up with a list of wellness ideas.

And the great thing is that they include physical, mental and emotional support ideas.

My fave was when he said 'flexibility', he explained flexible thinking would be a benefit, cause he would stress less and this could help him feel better .

I was pretty blown away, of the power of a few movements that support whole brain thinking .

I have a YouTube page for Disability and Community Wellness..please join if you'd like more stories, ideas and wellness tips.

Understandable not everyone gets the chance for a winter pause.
Carers working 24/7, single parents, study/work/life. All the things, right!

Sometimes doing that thing you like to do with your hands, can calm the brain and give your over active brain a chance to just switchback to what it knows. A small sense of calm and security is often in the small things

The Orange Belt - Meaning🥋🍊💯

Enthusiasm, determination and the fire within to keep improving and overcoming challenges

Sounds a little like marriage too 👩‍❤️‍👨

Also celebrated 16 years of marriage with my no 1 employee

He who puts up with my antics such as taking up martial art at 50.

He did send me the words above
- during my grading today.

So I came out feeling all the feels of life as we make it 😌

We were gifted hands.
Not everyone has two,
Not everyones' functioned like intended
Not everyone's continue to function..may be degenerative

They also could be underused - we press butons to start cars, to close windows (yes there was a time when we did not)

Neurons that fire together, wire together.

AND I often hear, ouch my hand hurts when I write

AND also there is stress, that can weaken signals to the hand.

One teen this week with ADHD, told me the answer is in his brain but not in his hands.
I helped him by using a BrainGym movment called Arm Activation, this released tension in his shoulder, also relaxed him and then we can think clearer and express our selves and this includes written expression.

And yes we do talk with our hands''' well atleast our brain believes so

Our functional working hands simply transmute our brains messages.

Not always clearly and this is why we need to pay attention to the physical skills that go with learning

And sometimes we need to take a step back, before we can take a step forward.

Learning doesn't need to be a battle ground.

Learn The 26 movements just like these beautiful people, they either have children who are neurodiverse and or work with children/teens/adults with varying needs.

Movements can be adapted. Have them in your toolkit and you will see the difference movement makes on building real connection.

BrainGym reminds us of our bodies role in learning. And it is a playful and inviting way to support learners and yourselves too.

Come Learn The 26 Movements with me.
Enrolments close soon.

Is it a dog, is it a fox?

What I see is personality?

Want to know why?

Because its fun, playful and centred. It was added at the end of a session with me.

It is.. a teen who can get the big picture, fill in the details and add more to the centre of the pic, just for fun.

The BrainGym movements can add a new dynamic and pizzass.

Use the body to help the brain..

I AM teaching the BrainGYM Course In July...

The one I wish I had done first.
The one that teaches you the what, how and why of the moves...

I certainly add in the WHEN.. because I am on the ground delivering this to people daily.

If you want to train with me..
