The Daniel Morcombe Foundation was founded by parents Bruce and Denise Morcombe after their son Daniel was abducted in December 2003 while waiting to catch a bus on the Sunshine Coast. Today we would like to see a future where all children and young people are provided with education, protection and support to be safe from abuse and risk of harm.

Bruce has reached Alice Springs on his Safer Outback Schools challenge.

Centurion Transport and the AFP helped restock his trailer with child safety resources, so the next communities on the route are covered. Thank you to both.

What does meaningful allyship look like when it comes to keeping children safe?

Our latest Bright Futures webinar was an important reminder that preventing child sexual abuse takes more than awareness. It takes action, courage and a shared commitment to making child safety everyone’s responsibility.

A huge thank you to Dr Emma Rees for sharing her valuable insights and exploring how we can move beyond good intentions, overcome barriers to speaking up, and become active allies in protecting children.

From Roma to Longreach, Cloncurry, Burketown and Mount Isa, Bruce has delivered free child safety resources to regional and remote schools, with the Isuzu MU-X carrying him safely across every stretch of road.

Next stop is Tennant Creek, then on to Alice Springs. Thanks to Isuzu UTE Australia for helping us keep kids safe, one outback town at a time.

Thankyou to Luke Twyford QLD Family and Child Commissioner. this is an excerpt about his journey on the Safer outback Schools challenge. Thank you for helping us.

Day 6 of my adventure with Bruce Morcombe and what a day. We managed 13 schools, school leadership teams, ELC, school based police, the PCYC Mount Isa and wonderful staff at Child and family centre. Delivered 1000,s of free child safety resources.
Exhausting 39 degree day but emptied the trailer!

What stayed with me the most today was something bigger.

There is a movement behind Bruce and Denise that is big, intergenerational and important.

We met teachers who were themselves students when Bruce and Denise first visited their schools. We walked into classrooms where children already knew Daniel’s story and could confidently recite the 3r’s Recognise, React and report.
We spoke with police officers who knew about the Daniel Morcombe Foundation’s free resources, used them in their work and already had ideas about what is needed to come next.

After 6 days on the road with Bruce, I’ve seen just how powerful that can become when you stick with it for years.

Next stop on the Safer Outback Schools Challenge: the Gulf. 🐊 Yesterday Bruce and Luke visited Karumba State School and Burketown State School, where Bruce shared child safety messages with students and the Foundation's key message: Recognise, React, Report. They also dropped off free child safety resources, with local police joining them in both classrooms.

Their presence reflects the strong partnerships between police and schools in remote communities, where officers and educators work closely to support the safety and wellbeing of local children. These relationships build trust, help children see police as safe adults they can approach, and make it easier for concerns to be raised and acted on early. Keeping kids safe really takes a whole community. ❤️

We're partnering with UniSC's Sexual Violence Research and Prevention Unit to create a dedicated Fathers Hub, giving fathers and father figures practical tools to prevent tech-based abuse and build respectful digital habits at home.

"This project recognises the important role fathers and father figures can play in shaping respectful online behaviour and creating safer digital environments for women and children," said project lead Dr Lara Christensen.

Funded through the eSafety Commissioner's Preventing Tech-based Abuse of Women Grants Program, the hub will be co-designed with men's groups, community organisations and practitioners. It will be developed over the next two years and made freely available to families across Australia.

Bruce and luke rolled into Cloncurry on the Safer Outback Schools Challenge, dropping free child safety resources at Curry Kids Early Learning Centre and Cloncurry State School, then catching up with local police at PCYC.

From Cloncurry to the coast, every school, early learning centre and community can be part of Day for Daniel on Friday 30 October. Wear red, educate and donate, and join Australia's Biggest Child Safety Lesson live at 9:15am.
