I’m working with Thai students again and they have complained that many free English language videos on YouTube are poor quality. They say that the the biggest problems are .

1. The teacher talks too fast
2. The vocabulary is too advanced
3. The American accent is very confusing
4. There are no subtitles and they cannot extract meaning from the teachers video.
5. Incorrect pronunciation

It hasn’t always been like this,there were easier lessons to follow .

What I do with students is teach them basic vocabulary , including verbs and linking them with other basic words to make simple phrases .
Another way learners love is basic greetings and common phrases. That they can learn easily.

I speak slowly with a natural neutral British accent which is easy to follow.

During a tour of Thailand I discovered that many locals desire to speak English but something is holding them back . If you think you know what that is add a comment below . I have some pretty good ideas but am interested in helping those that want to learn .

Having travelled to Thailand recently . I found the following phrases useful . I also discovered that Thai people have difficulty in gender identication . He, She , You , I etc .. I am helping some Thai people at the moment so if you want to be part of that learning experience contact me ...

1.Sa-wat dee (hello)
Used for both hello and goodbye.

2.Khop koon (thank you)
How to show your appreciation once you’ve been handed your Singha beer and pad Thai.

3.Gee baht? (how much)
Essential for all the shopping you’ll be doing, or when haggling with tuk-tuk drivers.

4.Yoo tee nai...? (where is...)
Invaluable when lost! Just point at a place on your map or in your guidebook and say ‘yoo tee nai’. Also useful when you are trying to find the right bus to go to Phuket or otherwise.

5.Mai ow (don't want)
Useful for fending off persistent street vendors.

6.Khor tort (sorry)
Stood on someone’s foot at the Chatuchak market? Now you can apologise.

7.Neung, song, saam, see, haa, hook, jet, baat, gow, sip (one to ten)
Impress the locals by reciting one to ten.

8.Lot noi dai mai? (can you make it cheaper?)
If you are doing a lot of shopping then try this handy phrase. By speaking a little of the Thai language you might just get a better discount.

9.A-roi (delicious)
Show your appreciation for that delicious Thai meal! You never know, if you go back to the same place you might get an extra helping.

10.Mai pen lai (never mind)
A common phrase in the Thai language – if someone apologises to you (khor tort) then reply with ‘mai pen lai’. If someone thanks you (khop koon) say ‘mai pen lai’. If there’s a mix up (which invariably happens with a language barrier) have a chuckle and say ‘mai pen lai’!

I have just completed a review of some English Language sites around the world. The problem is that the Language being used is aimed at an intermediate and advanced user.

IELTS, the International English Language Testing System, is designed to assess the language ability of candidates who need to study or work where English is used as the language of communication. IELTS is required for entry to university in the UK and other countries.

The road towards gaining entry into a university or residence in a new English speaking country often involves proving that the you have a strong understanding of the English Language and can demonstate capability in the Englsih Language . This takes the form of speaking, listening , reading and writing . 😏

However trying to attempt this is impossible without achieving and becoming proficient at an intermediate level first . The way this is done is through participating in an elementry English Language course first and then acquiring more experience and skills to become an intermediate level student . At this level the student can then sit a preliminary English Test ( PET). Which is equivalent to an IELTS level 4.

In general you will need an IELTS score of 6.5 before going to university or 5.5 to take a foundational course or vocational programme. This is necessary in order to understand the material given in the course . It normaly takes 12 weeks to complete each level and improve your IELTS score by one point.

It is important to know what level you are on now and that you work out realistically how long it will take to reach your Goal.

I read a post from a person who is trying to pass IELTS. Apparently has not passed 3 exams!
I also heard of an English speaking person who also is battling to pass the exam.
The best way to prepare for IELTS is to read as widely as possible.This is to increase and develop your vocabulary and your ideas about popular subjects.
