This One Extraordinary Life

Spent the day in brisbane with 40 other career practitioners at a conference day. All of them worked in schools with young people in years 9-12. My colleague and I were the only ones working with adults.

There really are so very few of us working in this field. It blows my mind. Choosing what you do for work is as important as choosing your life partner. And we all know we don’t often get it right first go! Or second go.

Feel so proud that I get to do my little bit! ❤️
Show people the infinite possibilities! Especially when you’ve got some years of experience and have developed some transferable skills. The doors open!

I visited a colleague yesterday who refers her clients to my career transition workshop in my day job.

She was so excited to tell me that all four women who were in one of my classes last year have all just reached the magic number (being employed in their new career for 12 months) which means they are no longer her clients because they are now standing on their own two feet again!

I'm chuffed for all of them.

I love my work! Helping people to change their lives for good is my vision, and I get to do it every single day. :)

I often have Australian clients who would love a ‘work from home’ job but demand for this kind of work is so competitive, I’m often at a loss of who to refer them to.

So it’s time to ask my brains trust!

Or perhaps you know if companies who hire people for an in- house role and then are happy to let their staff work some of the time from home after the initial try out period when they build trust??

I LOVE writing resumes. Yep. I said it.

I LOVE listening to people's stories and then shaping their words in a way that brings out their magic.

Today I put on my 'business coach hat' and had my third coaching session with an inspiring business owner who helps people set up organised systems in their homes so they can save money, time and bring joy back into their lives.

I love helping someone to get the foundations right with a website/blog so that you don't put barriers in your way down the track is so rewarding (and what I wish I'd had back in the day when I first started blogging in 2009)

There are so many moving parts - email lists, getting the right things 'above the fold', getting the copy right, pinterest marketing, making sure you buy the URL from an australian provider and aren't charged a fortune, what website platform is best for google searches (hint: it's wordpress if you want any real chance of organic traffic), how to get your abn (so many scammers out there and if you dont know, it's easy to get caught by an 'ad'), who to use for web hosting for speed, seo, branding, how blogging can increase your brand awareness and traffic without ads (and how to do it), introduction statements...

We spent three hours today and she's got a week's worth of homework all laid out ready to go. Practical tasks to do that make a difference.

I can't even count the amount of hours I've spent in workshops, TAFE courses (I did a cert 3 and 4 in screen and media and a cert III in travel when i started roam the gnome), other training courses online in photography, SEO (about 5), online storytelling, videography and digital media and social media marketing - it's been a HUGE learning curve since 2009 when I first started blogging and working online, but i've learned so much! (and continue to learn so much!) It's ever changing. So grateful to have lots of my own mentors and coaches (both virtually and in person) who keep me up to date and on my toes!

Can't wait to see my client start to soar! She's got big plans!

Yesterday, I gave a bunch of useful stuff away instead of selling it - a mini-trampoline, my soft roof-racks, and a metal shoe rack with wheels (that had a rusty top but that would still be quite useful in a shed or outdoors)

I was so chuffed to get a message from the lady who picked up the shelf, telling me she'd paid my kindness forward, and had stopped to grab some bags to donate to the food bank.

What a wonderful world we live in!
