๐๐ Learning Beyond Book Week in Gumnuts ๐๐
At Aspire Pakenham, our love of books extends far beyond Book Week! Following the children's ongoing interest in The Very Hungry Caterpillar, the Gumnuts children continued to revisit the story through creative, hands-on learning experiences. ๐๐๐๐ฆ
To extend the conversations and ideas inspired by the beloved story, children were invited to paint recycled egg cartons and transform them into their very own caterpillars. Using different brushes and shades of green paint, children explored colour, texture, and creativity while bringing the caterpillar character to life. ๐จ๐
As children painted, educators encouraged discussions about the caterpillar's journey, the foods it ate, and its transformation into a butterfly. This meaningful experience helped strengthen children's literacy connections while supporting their imagination, language development, and understanding of the natural world. ๐ฟ๐ฆ
Working with paint and recycled materials also provided opportunities to develop fine motor skills, hand-eye coordination, concentration, and creative expression. The children were delighted to see their caterpillars take shape and proudly shared their creations with their peers. ๐โจ
By extending stories through play, art, and exploration, children are able to deepen their understanding of books and discover that learning can continue long after the final page has been turned. ๐๐
