I recently saw a post in another group and decided to do some research on this topic – with a scary outcome of what I found out!

AI-generated gardening, homesteading, and recipe books are flooding online stores. They look professional at first glance but often contain generic, vague, or even unsafe advice that could mess up your harvest or canning batch.

Here is how to spot the fakes:

The Author – No online profile? No social media presence? That's a bot, not a real person.

The Text – Vague fluff instead of specific, actionable steps. Robotic, repetitive phrasing that says a lot but means nothing.

The Visuals – AI-generated cover art with weird hands, jumbled text, nonsensical details, or photos that don't match the captions.

The Reviews – Overly gushy, generic 5-star praise that sounds like a robot wrote it.

A few real examples to watch out for:

The Complete Crock Pot Cookbook for Beginners by Luisa Florence – flagged by investigative journalist Matthew Kupfer and reported on by Mashable for robotic writing and an AI-generated author photo.

Food Forest Bible by Jovan Hutton Pulitzer – flagged by multiple reviewers on Substack as AI-generated garbage with no evidence the author has any gardening experience.

Wild Mushroom Cookbook and The Supreme Mushrooms Books Field Guide of the South-West – flagged by The Guardian. Experts warned they contain dangerous advice – potentially fatal.
By the way, The Guardian uncovered multiple AI-generated mushroom foraging books on Amazon ( Link: https://www.theguardian.com/technology/2023/sep/01/mushroom-pickers-urged-to-avoid-foraging-books-on-amazon-that-appear-to-be-written-by-ai #1 )

The Natural Healing Handbook by Luna Filha – The "author" Luna Filha does not exist.

Amazon now requires publishers to disclose if a book is AI-generated, but many slip through or are labeled vaguely.

Always click "Look Inside" if possible and read a random page. If it reads like a high-school essay written by someone who has never touched dirt, put it back.

Support real humans with dirty fingernails. Do your research, check the authors YouTube or blog, and keep our community safe from bad information.

There is a specific kind of magic that happens on the first day of Spring in Australia. The air warms, the birds get a little louder, and the dormant fruit trees feel alive again. 🌱☀️
Now is also the perfect time to sow and plant.
I’ve been busy propagating my plants and have a good range of seeds and plants ready to find a new home. Plus, I'm adding fresh new plants to the online store at www.foodforestseeds.au regularly – so keep checking back! Happy spring! 🌼

Seeds are available for a limited time at www.foodforestseeds.au Very rare! Seven Years Madagascar Bean SEEDS – Heirloom & Untreated – Phaseolus lunatus – Perennial Protein Powerhouse
A truly remarkable perennial legume that keeps on giving, year after year. Also known as the Seven-Year Lima, Painted Lady, or Tropical Lima, this vigorous climbing bean is a staple in tropical and subtropical food forests for good reason.
Originating from Central America and now beloved in gardens worldwide, this bean earns its name from its incredible ability to remain productive for several years without the need for replanting. In warm climates, it acts as a perennial, producing abundant harvests of large, beautiful beans season after season. In cooler areas with frost, the vine will die back in winter but happily reshoot when temperatures rise again, coming back stronger and more productive each year.
The Seven Years Madagascar Bean is a vigorously climbing vine that quickly develops into a thick, lush mat. It is fast-growing, hardy, low-maintenance, and adaptable to various soil types.
Uses:
When harvested very young, while the beans are still entirely white and have not developed any speckles, they can be eaten fresh, peeled and eaten raw like broad beans, or lightly steamed. For mature, dried beans (which develop beautiful red and white speckles), they must be soaked and cooked thoroughly. They have a creamy texture and are a delicious protein addition to soups, stews, casseroles, curries, salads, veggie patties, and dips.
Young Pods & Leaves: The very young pods can be steamed but can be fibrous. The youngest leaves are also edible but are bitter and must be cooked.
Nutrients & Health Benefits:
The Seven Years Madagascar Bean is a nutritional powerhouse, providing abundant plant-based protein and essential nutrients.
Rich in Fibre: Supports healthy digestion and promotes a feeling of fullness.
Important :
Preparation is critical and depends entirely on the bean’s maturity:
Young, Fresh Beans (entirely white, no speckles): Can be eaten fresh.
Mature, Dried Beans must be cooked thoroughly before eating.

Seeds are available in my online store at www.foodforestseeds.au
Bottle Gourd (Calabash) SEEDS – Heirloom & Untreated – Lagenaria siceraria – Nutritious, Versatile & Easy to Grow!
Grow one of the world’s oldest and most versatile cultivated plants with these heirloom, untreated Bottle Gourd seeds (Lagenaria siceraria), also known as Calabash, White‑flowered Gourd, or Long Melon. This fast‑growing, vigorous climbing vine has been cherished for thousands of years across Asia, Africa, and the Americas – not only as a nutritious food source but also for its incredible versatility in crafts, utensils, and traditional medicine.
Bottle Gourd is an annual climbing plant that produces large, smooth‑skinned fruits in a variety of shapes – from rounded and bottle‑shaped to dumbbell and long, slender forms. The vine can grow up to 6–9 metres in a single season, producing high yields of fruit that can be harvested young for eating or left to mature and dry for craft projects. It thrives outdoors in warm climates and can also be grown on a sturdy trellis or fence in large pots, making it accessible to gardeners across Australia.
Edible Young Fruit: Harvest when tender and immature (10–15 cm long) for use in curries, stir‑fries, soups, stews, and dals. The mild, slightly sweet flesh absorbs flavours beautifully.
Dried Gourds for Crafts: Allow mature fruits to dry completely to create birdhouses, bowls, water containers, musical instruments, and decorative art pieces.
Nutritious Leaves & Shoots: The young leaves and shoots are also edible and can be cooked as a leafy green vegetable.
Traditional Medicine: Used across many cultures for its therapeutic properties (see below).
Ornamental: The fast‑growing vine with large, lush leaves and white flowers makes a stunning natural screen or shade provider for patios and pergolas. More info in my online store at www.foodforestseeds.au
