Snow ⛄️❄️

On Tuesday we were lucky enough to have some snow dropped off for the tamariki to explore. There was lots of excitement as they explored it with their hands, finding out how cold it was, making snowballs, having a closer look with the magnifying glasses and coming together to have some fun. Te Whāriki recognises the importance of spontaneous play giving tamariki opportunities to play, imagine, invent and experiment with the world around them.

Today we dressed in yellow to show our support for Daffodil day! A day of coming together, spreading kindness and helping raise awareness for those affected by cancer.💛🌼

On Tuesday our tamariki became little scientists as they created a big volcano in the sandpit.🌋 They experimented with baking soda, vinegar and red dye, watching with excitement as the volcano fizzed, bubbled and erupted.
There was lots of curiosity, wonder and laughter as the tamariki made predictions and observed what happened. This hands on experience supported curiosity, problem solving, thinking and cause and effect learning and language and communication skills as they shared ideas and talked about what they noticed was happening.

Fun with friends ✨

This week our tamariki have been exploring together in various ways whether this is coming together to complete a puzzle, challenging their bodies outside or creating their own whāriki singing songs and dancing. Through collaborating with their friends, tamariki build positive relationships, practise communication skills and learn how to work with and alongside others.

What a magical snow day we had at kindy on Tuesday. There was smiles and lots of laughter as the tamariki made the most of the snow. They rolled balls, scooped up the snow into piles, tasted it, listened to the crunch under their foot and enjoyed some friendly snow ball battles!!

Another great excitement was sliding down the hill over at school on rubbish bags and sale signs. So many squeals of delight!!! We all took turns and our kaiako pulled us down the hill. We enjoyed running back up to have another turn.

Fun moments like this encourage adventurous play, build confidence and strengthen friendships as tamariki laugh, explore and experience the wonders of nature together.

What a snow-tastic day full of fun!!

This week our tamariki have been busy creating beautiful artwork on the concrete using the chalk.
Tamariki took turns with sharing the colours around while creating their artwork. Some of the tamariki used their hands to blend the chalk together, discovering how colours could mix to create new shades and effects.
This experience created opportunity for rich language and communication as tamariki were able to share ideas, talk about the colours that they were creating, and admire each others creations. It was wonderful to see their creativity, curiosity, and exploration shine as they created their artwork.

Yesterday the tamariki helped prepare the ingredients for our Matariki Soup night for later in the evening. Tamariki contributed to the process, working together, cutting and peeling the vegetables to get ready for the crockpot. Being involved in this process gives tamariki a sense of belonging - taking part in their centre and having a place here. Alongside the soup the tamariki made some paraoa parai/fry bread which went down a treat! The tamariki learnt about the importance of Matariki being able to come together, communicating, enjoying each others company and sharing kai together and also later being able to share their wonderful work with their whānau.

✨Playground excursion🛝
This week our tamariki have enjoyed two visits to the Lawrence park. A small group headed off on Monday, followed by the whole kindergarten on Tuesday.
Along the way, we talked about road safety, practicing how we stop, look in all directions for cars, and listen carefully before crossing. When we arrived, we read the playground rules together before heading off to explore everything the park had to offer.
This excursion provided endless opportunities for tamariki to challenge themselves, take risks, develop confidence, and build their gross motor skills through climbing, balancing, swinging, and exploring. 💚
