𝗛𝗮𝗻𝗱𝘀-𝗼𝗻, 𝗼𝗻 𝘀𝗶𝘁𝗲! 👷‍♂️🧱

We recently visited the 𝘉𝘶𝘪𝘭𝘥𝘪𝘯𝘨 & 𝘊𝘰𝘯𝘴𝘵𝘳𝘶𝘤𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯 site to see our Year 12 students putting their skills into practice – and they were certainly keeping busy!

From paving and bricklaying to taking measurements, students were fully hands-on under the expert guidance of their teacher.

The Certificate II in Construction Pathways gives students a real taste of the construction industry, exploring all stages of the process, from demolition and planning through to preparation and building.

It was great to see their enthusiasm, teamwork and confidence as they took on each task.

🏆 𝗖𝗲𝗹𝗲𝗯𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘀𝘁𝘂𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝘀𝘂𝗰𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀! 🌟

Last week, we came together for our Lower School and Senior School Awards Assemblies, recognising the achievements, effort and positive contributions of our students throughout the first half of the year.

Students were recognised for their attendance, effort and endeavour, demonstration of our college values, and achievement across subject areas, alongside special awards through Follow the Dream, STARS and Clontarf.

It was wonderful to welcome so many families and see the pride on the faces of parents, carers and staff as students received their awards.

🎨 𝗖𝗔𝗟𝗟 𝗙𝗢𝗥 𝗘𝗫𝗣𝗥𝗘𝗦𝗦𝗜𝗢𝗡𝗦 𝗢𝗙 𝗜𝗡𝗧𝗘𝗥𝗘𝗦𝗧: 𝗡𝗢𝗢𝗡𝗚𝗔𝗥 𝗔𝗥𝗧𝗜𝗦𝗧

Gilmore College invites Expressions of Interest from Noongar artists to collaborate with students in creating an original artwork for the College.

The completed artwork will feature on the College staff uniform and may also be used in college publications, marketing materials and stationery.

We welcome applications from artists who can provide:

• A short artist biography, including their Noongar identity and connection to Kwinana or the surrounding area
• Examples of their artwork
• Details of previous community, school or collaborative projects
• A brief outline of how they would engage students in the creative process

Artists with cultural knowledge of, and connection to, the Kwinana area are strongly encouraged to apply.

𝗔 𝘄𝗼𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿𝗳𝘂𝗹 𝗱𝗮𝘆 𝗼𝗳 𝗰𝘂𝗹𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗮𝗹 𝗲𝘅𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲🤝🌎

We recently welcomed students from Fukuoka Jonan High School in Japan for a very special day of cultural exchange, learning and connection.

Students from both schools shared their cultures through music, art, traditions and language. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students led the way with their always-inspiring traditional dances, where Noongar Community Leader Tim Kelly shared the stories and significance behind each performance.

The day carried on with carefully curated activities, including:

A big thank you to our Student Councillors for showing our visitors around and being great ambassadors of our school, and to everyone who helped make this day such a success.

𝐒𝐭𝐞𝐩𝐩𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐈𝐧𝐭𝐨 𝐒𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐝𝐚𝐫𝐲 𝐒𝐜𝐡𝐨𝐨𝐥! 📚🎒

Another Term 2 highlight was our very successful Year 6 Experience Days🌞, where we had the pleasure of welcoming the 2026 Primary School Leavers for a full day of high school!✨

It gave students the opportunity to familiarise themselves with the routines ⏰ and environment that await them next year, helping them feel more prepared and confident about starting secondary school🤝🏾.

The jam-packed itinerary included visiting different Learning Areas, meeting teachers and support staff, touring the school, and interacting with peers and students from other primary schools during recess and lunchtime🧃🍎

🎨 𝗟𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽 𝗶𝗻 𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 🌿

Students completing the Certificate I in Leadership through South Metropolitan TAFE put their teamwork, communication and planning skills into practice through two hands-on projects during Term 2.

Working alongside local Noongar artist Noelene Regan, students collaborated over two sessions to create stencil artwork inspired by the Banksia Woodlands and wildflowers of the Medina and Kwinana area. Their individual artworks were combined to form one large mural for the Koort of Medina Community Artwork Project.

Students then worked as a team to design and plant an edible garden around the Gilmore College yarning circle. After researching and selecting endemic Western Australian plants, they developed a garden design and brought it to life under the guidance of South Metropolitan TAFE staff.

Both projects gave students valuable opportunities to share ideas, make decisions, solve problems and work towards a common goal—putting their growing leadership skills into action.

From academic commendations and demonstrating our SOAR values to maintaining regular or excellent attendance, students collected so many Gilmore Gold tokens that they overwhelmed the token issuing centre (also known as Student Services)!😅

The PBS Pop-Up Shop will be back at the end of Term 3, restocked with even more amazing rewards, including speakers🔈, sporting equipment 🏐, self-care kits, scooters, and much more!

🏉 𝐒𝐭𝐮𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐒𝐩𝐨𝐭𝐥𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭: 𝐑𝐮𝐠𝐛𝐲 𝐃𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐦𝐬 𝐁𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐞 𝐑𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲 🌟

Congratulations to Year 12 student 𝐍𝐞𝐯𝐚𝐞𝐡 𝐍, who will fly to the Sunshine Coast next week to represent Western Australia after being selected in Rugby WA's 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟔 𝐔𝟏𝟖 𝐒𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐒𝐜𝐡𝐨𝐨𝐥 𝐆𝐢𝐫𝐥𝐬 𝐗𝐕𝐬 𝐓𝐞𝐚𝐦.

Nevaeh's selection reflects her talent and dedication to Rugby Union. After taking up the sport in 2024, she has quickly made her mark, building on her background in Rugby League and netball.

Balancing school, work and training four to five times a week is no easy feat, but with the support of her family — especially her cousin, who is also a state representative player — Nevaeh has embraced every opportunity.

Playing as a 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐩, Nevaeh uses her strength to anchor the scrum and loves the physical nature of the game. Just as importantly, she values the friendships rugby has given her.

Looking ahead, Nevaeh will also travel to Bali in October to compete in a mixed Rugby Union team and has her sights set on one day playing for the Western Force.
