Calling “You’re okay” a swear word sounds dramatic. 😅

But sometimes the most common phrases are the ones worth reflecting on the most.

This isn’t about criticising educators, parents or caregivers. It’s about being curious enough to ask:

✨ Is there a better way?
✨ What is the child actually hearing?
✨ How can our language support connection before correction?

Meet Miss Yvonne 🤍

Miss Von is our Koala Lead Educator and is known for her quirky, can-do attitude and ability to bring fun into every moment. Whether it’s dancing, laughing with the children, or jumping head first into a new project, she brings an energy that is contagious throughout the service.

Miss Von has stepped into leadership with pure strength, confidence and determination. She loves a little healthy competition when it comes to projects and always encourages her team to give things a go, reminding them that growth happens when we do it together.

Families and children are naturally drawn to Miss Von’s “let me be there for you” approach. Her team admire her honesty, support and willingness to lead with authenticity, always reminding those around her that nobody needs to be perfect, we just need to show up together.

And in true Miss Von style, you’ll often find her spending her lunch breaks rushing home for cuddles with her beloved dog 🐾

We love our Vonny! ❤️

Elevate is Empower’s internal leadership development program, designed to support educators who demonstrate potential and a commitment to continuous growth.

Through mentoring, reflective dialogue, service contribution and leadership opportunities, participants are challenged to deepen their influence and strengthen their practice.

Because great leaders aren’t simply found.

They’re developed. 💛

Some of the biggest reflections in early childhood don’t always come from big changes… sometimes they come from the smallest words.

Over time, our team began noticing how often certain phrases showed up in everyday practice. Not because they were said with poor intention, but because they had become familiar, automatic, and rarely questioned.

The Swear Jar became a light-hearted way for us to pause, challenge habit, and think more deeply about the language shaping our image of the child, our image of the educator, and the relationships we build every day.

This series is simply an invitation to reflect with us. You may agree, disagree, or even see things differently and that’s okay. Reflection is where meaningful conversation begins. 🌱

This term, children are working alongside Builder Gary to build a wall from the ground up… using real tools, real materials, and real processes.

Every fortnight, they’ll plan, collaborate, problem-solve, and persist through challenges together.

This is more than building…
it’s confidence, teamwork, and real-world learning in action.
