Thought provoking start to day 3 of the ECA Conference- Dr Claire Warden. Our world and the world of our children is so busy and for children to deepen their knowledge and learn more, we need to slow down and make space to breathe, observe and be in the moment instead of rushing through childhood.

An amazing first day at the ECA Conference starting with the importance of early learning. Finding our Fizz explored keeping the joy and fun in our days for children, educators and families. Sessions on Re-imagining quality improvement with simple, practical strategies to gather different voices and perspectives. Lively Bunnies explored the use of children's comforters. Play in many different settings and designing 0-3 environments.
What a powerful day and so much learning to share in our team.

Jane (Centre Director) and Tanya (Educational Leader), along with other Goodstart leaders from our region, will be attending the National Early Childhood Conference in Melbourne this week. This is a valuable opportunity to learn from leading experts in early childhood education, connect with professionals from across Australia, and explore innovative ideas that support high-quality outcomes for children, families, and educators.

Attending the conference will help our leadership team strengthen their knowledge and skills, ensuring we continue to provide the best possible learning environments for children. Through workshops, presentations, and networking opportunities, leaders will gain insights into current research, best practice, leadership development, inclusion, wellbeing, and quality improvement initiatives.

Most importantly, the learning gained from the conference will be brought back to our centre and shared with our educators. This means families will benefit from new ideas, enhanced teaching practices, and enriched learning experiences that support each child's growth, development, and sense of belonging.

By investing in professional learning opportunities such as the National Early Childhood Conference, we are investing in the quality of education and care we provide. The knowledge, inspiration, and connections gained will help us continue to create engaging, inclusive, and meaningful learning experiences for children while strengthening outcomes for our entire centre community.

Thriving Teachers: Room-to-Room Transitions Professional Learning

Our teachers recently participated in a Thriving Teachers face-to-face professional learning session alongside teachers from across the region, focusing on strengthening room-to-room transitions. We were proud to welcome visiting educators to our service, showcase our learning environment and share our ongoing journey of continuous improvement.

Throughout the session, teachers engaged in meaningful discussions and reflective conversations about how transitions can be developed in partnership with children, families and educators. By sharing ideas, experiences and perspectives, educators worked collaboratively to strengthen practices that support positive transition experiences for all children.

The group explored strategies to ensure transitions are responsive to each child's individual needs and provide continuity throughout their learning journey. This reflective thinking highlighted the importance of consistent relationships and supportive environments in fostering children's sense of belonging, wellbeing and confidence.

The robust discussions, thoughtful questioning and shared commitment to improvement marked the beginning of an ongoing practice uplift process. Teachers considered how professional knowledge, ethical practice and continuous reflection can guide decision-making and build professional capacity across teams.

Each teacher will now take this learning back to their individual teams to continue unpacking the content, engage in further reflective practice and collaborate with colleagues to identify opportunities for enhancing transition practices within each service. Through this ongoing cycle of reflection, collaboration and action, we continue to strengthen outcomes for children, families and educators. This work aligns with NQS Standards 4.2.1 Professional Collaboration, 4.2.2 Professional Standards and 4.1.2 Continuity of Staff, supporting a culture of professional learning and continuous improvement.

Thanks to everyone who attended, with some driving long distances to be involved. It's great to work as a team across our region.

Possum Skin Cloaks

Embedding cultural practices into our everyday learning helps children build respect, understanding and a sense of belonging. After showing a strong interest in the possum skin displayed in the Director's office, the children were eager to learn more about its special meaning and history. Following their interests, we introduced the story "Possum Skin Cloak" by Aunty Fay Muir and Sue Lawson and provided possum skins within our play spaces for children to use when caring for and wrapping their dolls and babies.

These experiences help children develop a strong sense of who they are and where they belong, while also learning about the rich histories, cultures and traditions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. Through storytelling, conversations and hands-on play, children are building connections with culture, community and Country.

By responding to the children's interests and learning alongside them, we are fostering secure, respectful and reciprocal relationships and valuing the role that families, community knowledge and cultural resources play in children's learning through partnerships. These experiences also celebrate respect for diversity, helping children appreciate and value different cultures, perspectives and ways of knowing.

As part of our Wiradjuri Language and Culture program, this learning strengthens our commitment to creating a culturally safe, welcoming and inclusive environment where every child and family feels respected, represented and connected. Through play, stories and shared experiences, children are developing an appreciation for First Nations cultures and an understanding that stories, traditions and knowledge can be passed from one generation to the next.

Our children enjoyed making wigay (damper) with Uncle Gerald. The children kneaded their dough on paper plates, sprinkling flour to stop it from sticking to their hands. Uncle Gerald then showed them how to safely set up the fire and explained the importance of being careful around it.

After flattening their dough, the children carefully placed it on the fire with Uncle Gerald's help. They were amazed as they watched the wigay cook, noticing little bubbles appearing on the dough first. The children eagerly observed the changes before enjoying their freshly cooked damper together.
