How cute is this ?
Office Tara sent this photo of Mignon, Dixie, and Nugget, who have settled in well with her broody bantam hen Mrs Miggins.
By bonding with Mrs Miggins, not only will the chicks be kept warm, they will be taught how to be chickens and have a protector when they join the rest of the flock in a few weeks.

What did our flock get up to on the weekend?
They grew! That's what hatchlings do best.
At exactly one week old their wing feathers are starting emerge from the floof, they are more steady on their feet, and they are all eating and drinking well.

What do we want? Chook spam!
When do we want it? Now!!
How many chicks can you count?
Two more little floofs hatched overnight and two more are working their way out today.
When hatching chickens, there is no guarantee that all eggs will become healthy chickens. Of the 12 egss delivered on Monday seven hatched healthy chicks, two are pipping today, one hatchling didn't make it, and we appear to have two "dud eggs" that won't hatch at all.

Good morning! Time for a chicken update...
We now have five little chicks in the brooder box and expect two more to hatch today.
Nugget, Binny, Eggatha, and Chirp are all fluffy and fine. Little Crimpy was a fresh hatchling this morning, and will be just as fluffy once she dries out.
All the floofs have different colours and markings as they are a mix of breeds. The Pip Hatch Learn program said the egss are from a mix of "the most relaxed, docile and children-friendly breeds for our programs including; Wyandotte, Brahma, Plymouth Rock and Sussex".

Three of our children (and Miss Sam!) were lucky enough to have front row seats when Binny emerged from her shell!
She is tiny and scrawny, but by tomorrow she and Nugget will be dry and fluffy, ready to move from the incubator into the brooder box.

The Preschool children had an exciting visitor this week - Farmer Fiona.
The interactive program used song, dance, and gymnastics to teach the children about the changes in season, the lifecycle of plants, flowers, fruits and bees.
