Ever watched your little one’s face light up when they realise they made that themselves? 😍

That’s exactly what happened at Trails last week, when we welcomed our parents in for a morning of sushi rolling, side by side with their children 🍣 Little hands (with a bit of guidance from our wonderful chef 👨‍🍳) rolled rice, arranged fillings, and concentrated so hard on getting it just right. It wasn’t just about the food — it was about connection.

Moments like these matter more than they might seem. Beyond the giggles and the occasional rice grain ending up somewhere unexpected 😄, this experience helped strengthen fine motor skills, hand-eye coordination and confidence, all while building something even more valuable: community 🤝 When parents and educators come together like this, children feel it.

They see that the people who care for them are connected, and that sense of belonging shapes how safe and supported they feel every single day.

At Trails, we see outdoor play as an opportunity to nurture the whole child — physically, emotionally, and socially. From building strength and coordination, to learning how to assess risk, to forming deep connections with nature… every moment outside is filled with learning.

For so many families, sharing information about allergies, intolerances, or religious dietary needs comes with a quiet hope that it will actually be respected. We know how much that trust means.

At Trails, dietary requirements aren’t an inconvenience, they’re a priority.
Whatever your family needs, for whatever reason, we do everything we can to make sure your child is included, safe, and cared for at every meal.

Does “school readiness” make you picture flashcards and worksheets? At Trails, it looks a little different.

It looks like three children negotiating whose turn it is on the balance beam.
It looks like tiny hands cutting wobbly lines with safety scissors.
It looks like a four-year-old carefully packing away their own blocks, because they’ve been trusted to do it themselves.

To a passer-by, it’s just play. To us, it’s preparation.

Every day, our educators are quietly and intentionally building the skills your child will need for that big first day of school: patience, independence, focus, confidence with letters and numbers — all woven into the moments that feel like fun.

Because that’s how young children actually learn best.

And as our older children move closer to school age, we bring it all together with our Transition to School Workbook, helping them step into their new classroom feeling ready, capable and excited.

Today we celebrate the Early Childhood Educator’s Day but last Saturday we spent time together with a Paint & Sip afternoon led by the wonderfully talented Deb Ramos 🎨🐟

Our educators painted two fish, inspired by the story in Matthew 14 — where Jesus took just two fish and five loaves and used them to feed 5,000 people. It wasn’t much on its own, but in His hands, it became more than enough.

We shared with our educators that their care works the same way. A warm smile. A kind word. A moment of patience. These things might feel small in the busyness of a day, but in a child’s life, they can be everything!

Thank you to every educator who shows up with that kind of heart, every single day.
We see you, and we’re so grateful for you. 💛

We weave in weekend news, family experiences, and meaningful moments shared during circle time, balancing child-led exploration with intentional teaching.
