Ocean Reef SHS Goes Yellow for R U OK? Day πŸ’›

There was plenty of yellow around Ocean Reef SHS today as students and staff came together to recognise R U OK? Day.

Students took part in R U OK? Day activities during Homeroom, while our Year 7–10 students attended presentations from, with sessions covering resilience, anxiety, mental health and Love Yourself.

Throughout the day, students could also get involved with Year 11/12 games in the Great Court, visit the R U OK? Day display in the Library, pick up a yellow cupcake from the canteen, or add a little more yellow with nail polish and smiley face stamps at Student Services. πŸ’›πŸ§

Thank you to everyone who got involved and helped bring an important message to life across the school today: a conversation could change a life.

Djilba Music Showcase Hits All the Right Notes 🎢

What a fantastic night of music at our Djilba Music Showcase, celebrating the talent of students in our Specialist Contemporary Music Program.

The evening featured an impressive range of performances and was a fantastic opportunity for our students to showcase their talent, confidence and musical skills. It was particularly special for our Year 12 Music students, who took to the stage for their final showcase, with their solo and group performances among the highlights of the evening. 🎀🎸

A huge amount of work goes into an event like this, and we extend a big thank you to our Music staff and IMSS teachers for the countless hours spent preparing and supporting our students, as well as the wider staff team who worked behind the scenes to bring the evening together.

Our Certificate III Tourism students also played an important role on the night, providing the catering service during interval.

πŸ‘ Congratulations to all of our performers and everyone involved in making the Djilba Music Showcase such a successful evening!

Year 12 Business – Finishing the Year Off Strong! πŸ’Ό

What a fantastic way for our Year 12 Business students to finish the year. Two years of learning. One big pitch. And some very impressive young entrepreneurs!

Students have brought together everything they have learnt, developed and explored over the past two years for the ultimate challenge: pitching their own business ideas to seek investment.

This task gave students the opportunity to draw on their knowledge and skills, from identifying a business opportunity and understanding their target market to developing business plans and delivering a compelling business pitch.

It was fantastic to see their creativity, confidence, entrepreneurial thinking and ability to apply their knowledge. πŸ‘πŸ’Ό

Canberra Tour – Day 1 πŸ‡¦πŸ‡Ί

After a long day of travel and some time adjusting to the time difference, our Year 8 Academic Extension students set off to see the beautiful sights of Canberra.

The day started at the Australian War Memorial, where their tour focused on Australians in the First World War. From there, they made their way to Mount Ainslie to take in the panoramic views of Canberra.

Students then learnt about the establishment of our nation's capital at the National Capital Exhibition, before taking an 18 km bike ride around Lake Burley Griffin. 🚴

Their day ended in the chambers of Old Parliament House, home to the Museum of Australian Democracy.

A fantastic first day in Canberra! πŸ‡¦πŸ‡Ί
