We like to make a big deal of Father’s Day at Mayfield – this year is no different.

As usual, we are extending celebrations across the whole weekend.

To kick off the fun, every dad who joins us for lunch on either Saturday 5 September or Sunday 6 September will be welcomed with a complimentary beer or glass of mulled wine.

We’ll also be serving a couple of big blokey comfort dishes on top of our regular menu, including Beef Bourguignon with garlic mash and lamb shanks with parmesan polenta, both of which will go down well with one of the big local reds on our wine list.

Truffles and Mulled Wine

You are more than welcome to join us this weekend for a robust walk through the garden, followed by a special afternoon of truffles and mulled wine.

Our restaurant will once again be serving scrumptious truffle-based specials – on the menu is a pan-seared scallop, truffle, and porcini risotto, as well as a lamb rump with truffle and potato terrine.

Or just feel free to drop by for a heartwarming glass or two of the amazing mulled wine we have sourced this winter from local producer Renzaglia.

We’ll even throw in a glass of mulled wine with every garden ticket.

Mulled Wine, Truffles and Great Food

It is not just about the garden this weekend at Mayfield - there are a couple of additional reasons why you should join us.

We have just received a supply of mulled wine from local producer Renzaglia. It is a beautiful wine that will warm the cockles of your heart and, what’s more, it is our shout for any visitor who buys a garden ticket this weekend.

Of course, you might just prefer to buy a glass and prop yourself in front of our fire, which is also a good idea because you are likely to be tempted by a few truffle specials on offer this weekend.

We recently harvested our annual but small supply of truffles, and our chefs have gotten to work on a few truffle-based specials for this weekend – we’ll be serving a pan-seared scallop, truffle and porcini risotto, as well as a lamb rump with truffle and potato terrine.

Bring a warm coat, head into the garden for a brisk walk, bring your dog if you like, and then join us afterwards for some excellent food and wine.

MOVING INTO THE WINTER MONTHS....

Seasonal changes at Mayfield bring new experiences and different ways to enjoy the garden. Winter is no different.

In winter your eye is drawn more to the garden’s framework, to its platform, instead of just the horticulture.

You’ll notice the symmetry of our hedges, the brilliant stonework, the amazing bridges and paths, and even the positioning of sculptures and fountains.

It’s a different time to be here, but no less interesting.

It can also be invigorating – come and get some rosy cheeks with a robust walk through the full 65-hectare garden

THINKING OF A TRIP TO THE MOUNTAINS THIS LONG WEEKEND?

There is still a beautiful splattering of colour across what we call the pre-winter garden.

The Autumm kaleidoscope might be duller, but there is still a great horticultural experience to be had at Mayfield this week and into the long weekend.

LINGERING AUTUMN DAYS

Whilst Mayfield might be a week or two past its most spectacular Autumn days, there is still some beautiful colour in the garden.

Our gardeners say visitors this weekend should look out for the Liquidambars, swamp cypress, birch, chestnuts, and even some of the Japanese maples are still putting on a show, whilst the camellia mounds are looking exquisite.

Kick your way through the leaves, let the kids run wild in the maze, take a vigorous walk, enjoy the clean mountain air.

Whatever you do, don’t let Autumn pass you by.

Make sure you also come and sample some awesome regional food and wines in our garden café.

AUTUMN JUST KEEPS ON GIVING…..

Has been another amazing Autumn at Mayfield, and it is not over yet.

There are still beautiful colours lingering across the garden, and the falling leaves are only adding to the traditional Autumn romanticism.

But don’t leave your visit for too much longer – suggest you jump in the car over the next week or two and come for a tramp through the garden.

Weather’s getting fresh, but it really is a beautiful time to be here.
