YEAR 10 MOCK INTERVIEWS – GETTING WORK READY!

Our Year 10 students have been putting their skills to the test this week, taking part in Mock Interviews with local industry representatives. These Mock Interviews provide an opportunity for students to be interviewed in a relaxed setting, providing them with great insight of how an interview might be structured.

Following on from our 'World of Work' day earlier this term, students have been building their confidence and developing the skills they’ll need to take those first steps into the workforce.

The students put all these developing skills into practice during the mock interviews β€” answering questions, talking about their skills and experiences, and receiving valuable feedback from people who work in our local community.

A huge thank you to Brendan from The Davey Group, Nathan from The Oakey Pharmacy, Melanie from New Hope Group, Jude from Darling Downs Health and Vic from West Prairie Trading Co. for giving their time and sharing their knowledge with our students. Your support helps our young people feel more prepared, confident and connected as they take their next steps beyond school.

Real experiences. Real connections. Real-world preparation.

πŸ†βœ¨ STATE FINALS BOUND, HANNAH! βœ¨πŸ†

We are incredibly proud to congratulate Year 12 student, Hannah Mundey, who has been named the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Student of the Year at the Queensland Training Awards – Darling Downs South West Regional Final!

And the best news? Hannah is now heading to the Queensland Training Awards State Finals on 19 September!

Hannah is completing her Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care with Kids Patrol Oakey, where she is passionate about creating strong cultural connections and positive experiences for the children in her care.

Beyond her studies, Hannah is making an incredible contribution to our school and community as a House Captain, rugby league coach, dance volunteer and 2025 Beyond the Broncos Student of the Year. She is an inspiring role model for younger students and a wonderful example of where dedication, passion and hard work can take you.

A huge congratulations also goes to Ms Haley Darr, our Industry Liaison Officer, who worked tirelessly behind the scenes to support Hannah’s nomination. From coordinating information and preparing the application to coaching Hannah through the interview process, Haley went above and beyond to help Hannah showcase her achievements.

We are so proud of you, Hannah, and we’ll be cheering you on all the way at the State Finals!

Good luck, Hannah β€” bring home the big one!

🌈 UNDER 8s DAY 2026! 🌈

Our Year 11 & 12 Early Childhood Studies students had a fantastic morning getting hands-on and putting their skills into action at the annual Under 8s Day hosted by St Monica’s Primary School.

The morning brought together local schools, early childhood organisations and members of the Oakey community, creating a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the importance of play, learning and development in the early years.

Our students helped coordinate a range of fun activities and games for the little ones, giving them valuable experience working with children in an early childhood setting β€” an important part of their Early Childhood Studies program.

A big thank you to St Monica’s Primary School for hosting such a fantastic community event and to all the organisations, staff and volunteers who helped make the morning a success.

And well done to our Early Childhood students for getting involved, showing initiative and bringing plenty of energy and enthusiasm to the morning!

Learning beyond the classroom and gaining real-world experience β€” this is Early Childhood Studies in action!

🌟 YEAR 10 WORLD OF WORK PROGRAM 🌟

Our Year 10 students recently stepped into the World of Work for a full day of learning, teamwork and preparation for the future!

The program was designed to help our students build the skills and confidence they’ll need as they move into senior school and prepare for life beyond the classroom.

A huge thank you to New Acland Coal for delivering an informative session on looking the part and interview skills, including the importance of maintaining a positive digital footprint.

Thank you also to Oakey Beef Exports for sharing valuable knowledge about workplace health and safety and helping our students understand why safety is everyone’s responsibility in the workplace.

We are also incredibly grateful to our senior students and past students who generously gave their time to answer questions and share their experiences of senior school and life after graduation. Your insights were invaluable! πŸ™Œ

A big thank you to our Guidance Officer, Miss Hannant, and YSC, Amanda, for facilitating engaging teamwork activities throughout the day.

And, of course, a special shout-out to our amazing Hospitality students for preparing a delicious lunch and afternoon tea for our presenters.

It was a fantastic day of learning, connection and preparation as our Year 10 students get ready to put their new skills into practice during their Mock Interviews in the coming weeks.

Well done, Year 10 β€” your future is looking bright! 🌟
