Face to face in-person and online Japanese classes for adults wanting to learn Japanese in Australia. Our teaching staff are fully qualified, bilingual and native Japanese who live in Melbourne, Australia. Beginner classes are facilitated in native Japanese with English. Our more advanced classes are facilitated mostly in Japanese (Direct Method). Our physical classrooms are located in Nunawading, Victoria Australia. Our online classrooms are located anywhere in Australia.

Kanoko Sensei will soon be welcoming her second child, which means our students have secretly been learning from two sensei this whole time. Two sensei for the price of one! 😂

Baby number two is almost ready to join the Nunawading Japanese School family, although we may need to wait a few years before adding them to the teaching schedule!

Every year, many of our adult students travel to Japan and get the chance to use what they’ve learned in real life, ordering food, asking questions, making conversation and connecting with local people.

For us, these moments are what learning Japanese is all about.

It’s not just remembering vocabulary or grammar. It’s having the confidence to speak, understand and enjoy experiences that might otherwise pass you by.

At Nunawading Japanese School, we specialise in teaching Japanese to adult English-speaking learners. Our structured curriculum combines speaking, grammar, reading, writing and listening so you understand how Japanese works and, most importantly, learn how to speak it.

Whether you’re learning Japanese for travel, family, work, a future move to Japan or simply because you love the language and culture, we’ll help you build a strong foundation and keep progressing.

As a small, independently run Japanese school in , building and sustaining a successful school is incredibly rewarding, but it also comes with plenty of pressure and responsibility.

That is why we never take a single enrolment for granted.

Every student who chooses helps us provide employment for our wonderful Japanese teachers and allows us to continue creating high quality Japanese classes in Melbourne.

But our students give us something even more important.

You are the reason our classrooms feel bright, warm and full of life.
