Movement builds more than muscles. 🏃‍♂️⚽🏊 When kids run, kick, swim, and play, they’re developing motor skills, coordination, confidence, and resilience.

They’re learning teamwork, managing emotions, and discovering what their bodies can do. At Little Zak’s Academy, physical activity isn’t just downtime. It’s foundational learning. 🩵

Scroll to see why movement matters in early education.😍

Meet Viveka, the heart of Dundas Valley 💚

Every great centre has a leader who sets the tone, who leads with passion, listens with intention, and genuinely cares about every child and family who walks through the door. At Dundas Valley that is Viveka.

One of the most powerful things we can teach children: your body belongs to you, and your voice matters.

This National Child Protection Week, we’re creating safe spaces where children learn to trust themselves and speak up. 💛

We understand that leaving your child in someone else’s care comes with an enormous amount of trust.

That’s something we never take for granted.

Child safety is our highest priority, which is why we take great care in who we welcome into our Little Zak’s family.

Our rigorous recruitment process helps ensure every person who joins our team is someone we can trust to care for, protect and nurture the children in our centres.

They’re Here! Our Stick Insects Have Arrived! 🐛🌿
We are so excited to welcome our new stick insects to the centre! The children have already shown so much curiosity and wonder as they observe these fascinating creatures in their new home.
Having stick insects in our learning environment provides a wonderful opportunity for hands-on learning and discovery. Through caring for our new classroom pets, children will develop a greater understanding of living things, their habitats, life cycles, and the importance of respecting and caring for the natural world.
Throughout the coming weeks, the children will be:
🍃 Observing the stick insects’ behaviours and movements.
🪴 Learning about their habitat, diet, and life cycle.
🔍 Building observation, questioning, and investigation skills.
💚 Developing empathy, responsibility, and respect for living creatures.
📚 Expanding their vocabulary through meaningful conversations and scientific inquiry.
These experiences support children’s learning across the Early Years Learning Framework by encouraging curiosity, critical thinking, problem-solving, and a lifelong appreciation for nature and sustainability.
We can’t wait to share updates, photos, and all the exciting discoveries the children make as they become little scientists and caretakers of our newest friends! 🌱🦗

Today our friends in explorers participated in sensory play with painting. Painting with paint brushes is a valuable sensory and creative activity for children aged 0–2 years. At this stage, infants and toddlers explore colors, textures, and movements through simple painting experiences. Holding and moving a paint brush helps develop fine motor skills, hand-eye coordination, and early muscle control. Painting also encourages curiosity, self-expression, and cognitive development as children observe how colors spread and mix on paper. For safety, non-toxic, washable paints and child-friendly brushes should always be used under close adult supervision. The focus is not on creating a finished artwork but on exploring materials and enjoying the sensory experience in a safe and supportive environment.

Today in the Voyagers room the children started to self serve their meals the children enjoyed this and look forward to serving their own meals each meal@time. Allowing children to serve their own food at mealtimes helps promote independence, confidence, and healthy eating habits. When children are given the opportunity to choose and portion their own food, they learn to listen to their hunger and fullness cues and develop a sense of responsibility. Self-serving also encourages decision-making and fine motor skills as children use serving utensils and make choices about what they would like to eat. With guidance and support from adults, children can learn appropriate portion sizes while enjoying a positive and engaging mealtime experience.

Our New Community Pantry
We are delighted to introduce our new community pantry, a shared space created to support individuals and families in need. The pantry provides essential food items and household necessities, helping to ensure that everyone in our community has access to basic resources. Built on the values of kindness, generosity, and cooperation, the pantry encourages residents to donate what they can and take what they need. It also serves as a place where neighbors can come together to support one another and strengthen community bonds. Through collective effort and compassion, our new community pantry aims to make a positive difference in the lives of many people.
