Earlier today I picked myself some pansies from our garden. Then, typical me, I left them on the bench and did something else. Then after an afternoon rest I awoke to find very sad dead looking pansies on the bench!
Well as you can see, from the photo, they are now in a vase of water and reviving quickly. I know that story will not surprise any of you but it set me to thinking!
Jesus Christ is 'the living water' for His people. As believers we sometimes we get busy or worried or just 'side tracked' and find ourselves 'wilted on the bench'. Jesus is our friend and when we turn back to him and seek His forgiveness and help He is very quick to forgive and revive us.
Just as the pansies are reviving in the vase of water so too Jesus hears and revives His children very quickly.
John 4:13 Jesus answered, "Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again, but whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give them will become in them a spring of water welling up to eternal life."

I love the new Getty hymn "Living Water" it is worth finding on line and enjoying!

This morning I read Psalm 44. It is a rather sad even depressing Psalm. Then right at the end in the last 2 verses the writer sums up his feelings and then he turns to God.

In the second last verse (v 25) the writer says
"We are brought down in the dust;
our bodies cling to the ground."
Sounds very distraught, life is miserable!

Then in the last verse (v26) the writer says
"Rise up and help us;
rescue us because of your unfailing love."
He calls on God to come to their aid.
He calls on God to come to their rescue.
Why does the writer think God will help?
"because of God's unfailing love".

The Psalmist knows that God's love never fails.
It is not fleeting love.
It is not shallow love.
It is not faulty or flawed love.

It is reliable, dependable, certain and perfect love.

So the Psalmist is arguing with God about why God should help His people. He reminds God that he is the true source of love and therefore the source of help and rescue.

Many Christian people today are very scared of all the wars and natural disasters occurring around the world.
Many of us are aware of our mortality.
So the most important thing to do is to remind God of His unfailing love and ask Him to
"Rise up and help us;
rescue us because of His unfailing love".

The British actor, David Suchet, who is famous for playing the role of Hercule Poirot in the Agatha Christie series has recorded the entire Bible.

It is available on a tiny player that can be charged using a USB cable or by a solar panel on the back. It is available in Australia for $75 which includes postage from Gospel Recordings Network at 02 9899 2211 or [email protected].

I bought it for Elizabeth for Christmas and she loves it. She can carry it with her wherever she goes in the house.

The only drawback is that the translation used is the NIV so if you don't like that version you can't listen to David Suchet!!!
