MIDPA Welcome to Monash International Development Practice Association (MIDPA) Page.

Monash International Development Practice Association is a community of innovators, passionate about bringing positive impact through international development and humanitarian assistance. A university student run organisation, we aim to create an informal space for students, alumni and practitioners alike to discuss, share and learn together. We are growing and developing each day to create a sustainable Association that will continue to thrive with every MIDP cohort. Pivotal to our existence is the MIDP Association Blog, a platform for students to share their passions and, in true Monash style, challenge the status quo by critically analysing current development standards and practices. This semester we have taken our blog offline with our Teach Series (student-led discussions) and Brown Bag Seminars (industry expert seminars). Visit our website midpa.org or write to us at [email protected] and lets see where innovation takes us

πŸ“£ An update to our Professional Enhancement Workshop!

We’re pleased to welcome our new speaker, evaluation specialist Tanay Amirapu, for a conversation about how organisations assess their work and turn evidence into action.

Drawing on evaluations of the World Food Programme’s School Feeding Programme in Lao PDR and UNHCR’s Southern Africa Regional Livelihoods Strategy, Tanay will discuss why organisations commission evaluations and how programme and strategic evaluations differ.

We’ll explore the realities of working across complex organisations, balancing methodological rigour with practical constraints, and engaging stakeholders with differing perspectives. You’ll also hear what it takes for findings and recommendations to influence decisions, with time for your questions and discussion.

πŸ“£ Paradigm Journal Issue #5 is live!

MIDPA is proud to share the fifth edition of Paradigm Journal, a student-led publication written for the students and by the students of the Master of International Development Practice.

This year’s issue takes development as it is: complex, political, and deeply human. From Tacloban to Dharavi, Ethiopia to the Europe-Vietnam Free Trade Agreement, our writers explore climate, governance, urban poverty, peace, inequality, gender, security, and the urgent question of what development means, for whom, and at what cost. 🌏✍️

πŸ‘ Huge congratulations to our brilliant writers:
Manuel Samonte, Ilhamda El Zuhri, Prisha Dasgupta, Kibira Sattieva, Yahui Cheng, An Phuong Vo, Renee Isabelle Gonzalez, Prabhnoor Kaur Sekhon, Mrinalini Manda and Lay Lai Lai Waing.

πŸ’› Special thanks to our editorial team:
Anusha Shrivastava, Ayesha Naseem, Mrinalini Manda and Prisha Dasgupta.

πŸ™ And our heartfelt thanks to Dr. Gemma Sou and Dr. Colette Mortreux, MIDP Course Directors, for their continued support and guidance.

✨ Read Issue #5 on LinkedIn or head to the link in bio!

⏳ 1 DAY LEFT

Our Industry Insights & Networking Night is almost here πŸŽ‰πŸ™Œ

We’re bringing together a strong panel across the international development sector to share how they built their careers, the pivots they took, and what it actually looks like to enter the field.

Small note: Ms. Elise will unfortunately no longer be able to join us due to an overseas trip, but we’re excited to continue the conversation with our confirmed speakers and hear their insights, experiences, and advice for students.

This is your chance to ask questions, meet people in the sector, and connect with fellow development students.
