Introducing our 2027 student leadership team!

Congratulations to our school captains, Xander and Mimi; vice-captains, Shayden and Zara; and prefects, Macy, Cooper, Jasmyn and Peppa.

Student voice is an important part of life at Ku-ring-gai High School. Our student leaders help represent the ideas, experiences and perspectives of their peers, working alongside teachers to strengthen our school community.

We look forward to seeing this outstanding group lead with integrity, enthusiasm and pride throughout 2027.

⚽ FUTSAL STATE TITLES ⚽

Our Under 14 Boys Futsal teams have arrived at the Port Macquarie Indoor Sports Stadium for the Stage II State Titles of the NNSW School Futsal Championships!

These students are members of our Talent Enrichment Program Futsal Academy and have worked hard to prepare for this opportunity.

After a long day of travel yesterday, our students have been exemplary. They have been respectful, courteous and excellent representatives of Ku-ring-gai High School. The rain set in overnight, but everyone settled in well and is ready for a fantastic day of competition.

Next week, we return to Port Macquarie with our Under 15 Boys, Under 16 Girls and Under 16 Boys teams.

Good luck to all our players. Go Ku-ring-gai!

Congratulations to Austin from Year 7, who competed in the Ku-ring-gai Council’s 2026 Wild with Words poetry competition, and won the X Factor Award at the beginning of August!
Austin was recognised for the quality, creativity, and impact of his poetry, and was invited to attend the Senior Writing Masterclass enrichment program facilitated by Adam Axford at Gordon Library. There, Austin and his fellow poets were recognised and celebrated at the official Awards Ceremony by Mayor Christine Kay.

📚🎭 STORYBOOK TAKEOVER - Next Wednesday, the characters are escaping the pages.🎭📚

Next Wednesday 26 August, we’re turning Ku-ring-gai into a Symphony of Stories for Book Week!

Whether you’re arriving from Hogwarts, wandering in from Wonderland, escaping Panem, trekking through Middle-earth, or bringing a little Dog Man chaos to the playground, come dressed as your favourite book character.

There are just a few rules to keep the plot on track:

📖 Your character must be clearly recognisable

📚 Bring the book your character appears in, or a printed copy of the book cover

💬 Be ready to answer the all-important question: “What’s your favourite book?”

So dig through the wardrobe, raid the bookshelf and start planning. From superheroes and sorcerers to detectives, demigods, villains and Very Hungry Caterpillars, we want to see the school filled with characters from every chapter imaginable.

The Ku-ring-gai High School Chess team competed at the Sydney Academy of Chess’ NSW Semi-Finals tournament on Wednesday 12th August 2026. They played a rigorous Swiss-style 7 round competition, taking on tough opponents from North Shore and Central Coast high schools.
They placed 4th overall, unfortunately missing out on qualifying for NSW Finals by a single point. However, they all represented Ku-ring-gai High School admirably, and have set their sights on a Finals appearance for 2027.
Congratulations to all of them!

Join us on Friday 28th of August from 4:30pm to celebrate the creativity of our students with the Kaleidoscope Student Performance and Major Work Showcase!
Exhibitions will include work from Visual Arts, Photography, and TAS, before performances from CAPA students at 6pm.
Light refreshments will also be served by our year 12 Hospitality students.

Congratulations to Year 7 student, Jayden, on an outstanding performance at the Australian Gymnastics Championships!

In an incredible display of sporting versatility, Jayden competed at the championships on the same day he represented Ku-ring-gai High School at the Zone Athletics Carnival.

Competing in the Level 7 Under 13 division, Jayden placed first on floor, first on vault, fifth on rings and seventh on parallel bars. He was also part of the Team NSW squad that won gold.

Congratulations to Ku-ring-gai High School student Dan, Year 11, whose photograph, ‘Chattering Honeyeaters’, has been shortlisted in the Junior category of the 2026 Australian Geographic Nature Photographer of the Year competition!

More than 2,000 photographs were entered, with only 100 selected for the final shortlist across all categories. Dan’s photograph will now be exhibited at the Australian Museum in Sydney, and the South Australian Museum.

This is an outstanding achievement and a wonderful recognition of Dan’s talent, patience and eye for the natural world. We wish him the very best when the category winners are announced on 27 August.

We are now accepting formal applications for students intending to apply for the 2027 Yr 7 Northern Academy of Arts program at Ku-ring-gai High School. We will be accepting Applications up until Friday 23rd October 2026 – Term 4 Week 2.

Ku-ring-gai High School has a long-standing culture of Creative & Performing Arts. To further strengthen and enhance this culture, including the construction and use of our new specialised facilities, we are inviting students and their families to express their interest in our Creative & Performing Arts Program - Northern Academy of The Arts.
The Northern Academy of the Arts is a scholarship program at Ku-ring-gai High School whereby students who demonstrate an exceptional talent in the Creative and Performing Arts are able to extend their expertise in their chosen field.
This development program allows students to attend regular lessons with an emphasis on the arts within their mandatory curriculum. They will also have timetabled tutorials with specialists in the areas of their expertise.

Students will audition for the Year 7 Scholarship intake and remain as a student in the Academy from Years 8 - 12. The Year 7 Scholarship covers fees, workshops and equipment in their first year of the Academy. Then from Years 8-12, students will be given additional opportunities to participate in workshops and performances in the wider community.

Our current NATA cohort have recently been working on collaborative projects related to the theme of “Instability and finding one’s place” They have explored this through 3 sessions within their artforms developing choreography, devised drama pieces, composing music and lyrics as well as the creation of “Memory Boxes” inspired by the work of Joseph Cornell.

What a way to finish Term 2! 🎉

Our Spirit Week Assembly brought the energy back to the Bini (Margaret Preston Hall), our school's 'spiritual' home, with lip sync performances, dance battles, trivia, plenty of laughs and colour! It was fantastic to see our school community come together to celebrate the end of a great term.

A huge congratulations to our Student Representative Council for planning and delivering such a fun and memorable week for everyone.

A special thank you also goes to our VET Entertainment Industry students, who worked behind the scenes to bump in and bump out the entire production, including the entire lighting, vision and audio systems. Their professionalism and teamwork helped make the assembly a huge success.

Enjoy the highlights from the day!

We hope everyone has a safe, relaxing and well-earned break. We look forward to welcoming students back to school on Tuesday 21 July for the start of Term 3.
