We are deeply saddened by the passing of Sister Lecia Coombe RSM, a cherished member of the Monte community whose life was defined by faith, service, music and joy.

After entering the Sisters of Mercy Wilcannia Forbes Congregation in 1949 and making her final profession in 1955, Sr Lecia dedicated her life to Catholic education, inspiring generations of students across New South Wales, Tasmania and most notably at Monte.

Joining Monte in 1982 as Director of Resources for the Religious Education Department, Sr Lecia would go on to serve the College for 38 remarkable years. More than a teacher, she was a gifted educator who brought faith to life through music, creativity and genuine connection. A passionate musician and composer, she enriched countless liturgies, College musicals and celebrations, sharing her talents with generosity and enthusiasm.

While Sr Lecia officially retired in 2020, her connection to Monte never faded. She remained a treasured friend of the College, returning for Mercy Day and other special occasions, where her warmth, wisdom and unmistakable spirit continued to bring people together.

Today, we give thanks for Sr Lecia’s extraordinary life and the joy she brought to so many. We celebrate her enduring Mercy legacy, her unwavering dedication to education and the countless lives she touched through her kindness, faith and music.

Eternal rest grant unto her, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon her. May she rest in peace. Amen.

Masalou Lunch 2026

Friendships formed at Monte can last a lifetime.

Recently, Monte welcomed alumnae back to the College for the annual Masalou Lunch, a much loved tradition celebrating connection, shared memories and the enduring bond between generations of Monte women.

Guests enjoyed musical performances by our students, an address from Principal Mrs Nicole Christensen and an inspiring keynote by alumna Naomi Steer AO (Class of 1976), who reflected on her remarkable humanitarian career supporting refugees and her lifelong commitment to social justice. Guests also enjoyed revisiting treasured memories through archival displays showcasing the rich history of the College.

Throughout the afternoon, stories were shared, friendships rekindled and new connections formed, reminding us that the relationships built at Monte continue long after graduation.

Events such as the Masalou Lunch celebrate the lifelong connection our alumnae share with one another and with the College.
