Year 7 Science students recently took their learning to the zoo, using observation and inquiry to explore scientific concepts in a real world environment.

Experiences like these give students the opportunity to connect classroom learning with the world around them, ask questions and deepen their understanding through observation.

Our recent Year 10 Subject Market gave students the opportunity to explore future subject options, ask questions and consider pathways that reflect their interests, strengths and aspirations.

For Year 9 families, Learning Conferences brought students, parents and staff together to discuss learning, progress and opportunities for growth.

Together, these experiences support students to develop greater independence, understand themselves as learners and make considered choices about their future.

Science Week at Monte 

This week, students have been celebrating science through the 2026 theme, Seeds of Science.

From growing crystal seeds and a Science Scavenger Hunt to Science Karaoke and House Trivia, students have explored science beyond the classroom in creative and engaging ways.

The theme Seeds of Science connects the seeds from which plants grow with the tiny seeds from which crystals develop, while recognising that curiosity, questions and new ideas can also be the starting point for scientific discovery.

We are deeply saddened by the passing of Sister Lecia Coombe RSM, a cherished member of the Monte community whose life was defined by faith, service, music and joy.

After entering the Sisters of Mercy Wilcannia Forbes Congregation in 1949 and making her final profession in 1955, Sr Lecia dedicated her life to Catholic education, inspiring generations of students across New South Wales, Tasmania and most notably at Monte.

Joining Monte in 1982 as Director of Resources for the Religious Education Department, Sr Lecia would go on to serve the College for 38 remarkable years. More than a teacher, she was a gifted educator who brought faith to life through music, creativity and genuine connection. A passionate musician and composer, she enriched countless liturgies, College musicals and celebrations, sharing her talents with generosity and enthusiasm.

While Sr Lecia officially retired in 2020, her connection to Monte never faded. She remained a treasured friend of the College, returning for Mercy Day and other special occasions, where her warmth, wisdom and unmistakable spirit continued to bring people together.

Today, we give thanks for Sr Lecia’s extraordinary life and the joy she brought to so many. We celebrate her enduring Mercy legacy, her unwavering dedication to education and the countless lives she touched through her kindness, faith and music.

Eternal rest grant unto her, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon her. May she rest in peace. Amen.

A former Wallaby and Rugby World Cup winner, Rod has built an extensive career in rugby as a player, coach, commentator and analyst.

With his deep knowledge of the game and ability to draw a great story from our guests, Rod will lead us through what promises to be a highly entertaining afternoon.

From international rugby to an AFL Premiership, Mike Pyke’s sporting journey spans two football codes and two continents.

After representing Canada in international rugby union, Mike made the remarkable switch to Australian rules football with the Sydney Swans, becoming an AFL Premiership player in 2012.

Bringing Shakespeare from the page to the stage.

Year 9 students recently experienced a live performance by Bell Shakespeare at Monte, bringing the texts and ideas they explore in English to life through professional theatre.

The performance gave students the opportunity to see Shakespeare’s language, characters and dramatic techniques interpreted on stage, enriching their classroom learning through a memorable live experience.
