We hear it all the time. And honestly, you probably won't. But that was never the point. The point is what you did when the problem was hard. The perseverance. Sitting with the struggle and finding the solution anyway. That skill transfers to every industry and every part of life.

It was never about the math problem. It was about everything you learned in the process.

"The AI machine will not be able to compute it for you."

Five years ago a student who was stuck would dive deep and overcome it. Today they take a photo, get an answer, and move on. Zero learning process. Ask them the same question again and they would definitely fail.
AI is a fantastic tool if used correctly. Ask it for feedback. Ask it how to get better. Write your own sentence. Use it to learn, not to hide behind.

Because at the end of it all there is still a big cold hall, a pen, and paper.

"I want to complete one hour of math, one hour of English. All I've done was 10 minutes of English."

Every student knows this cycle. Monday you plan five hours of study and get ten minutes done. Tuesday, twenty. Wednesday there's so much to catch up on that it's easier to do nothing at all. By exam time you are scrambling, stressed, and you underperform. Then you do it all over again.

Nobody starts a new sport with no coach and expects to get good. Study is no different.

She was 9 years old. She saw a neon sign on the road and asked her mum to sign her up. I had never seen that before.

Most students come to us because their parents pushed them. Rosie came because she pushed herself. She wanted to be there. She was excited every single week. And that energy, that self-drive, that hunger to grow, is exactly why she is sitting where she is sitting today.

My daughter told me she hated piano and gymnastics. I did not pull her out.

I asked why. Turned out it had nothing to do with the class. It was about friendships. One conversation with the teacher changed everything. A year and a half later, she is the happiest I have ever seen her.

Before you pull your child out, dig deeper. The reason they give you is rarely the real one.

The work is easy. Getting there is the hard part.

Rosie came to me hungry. Homework done every week. Always asking for more. That kind of attitude does not happen by accident. It comes from building the right habits young and never letting them go. She went on to do Extension 1 Math, get her undergraduate degree, and run a business. Same habits, more results. Consistency is the whole game.

I started by motivating her. Then she started motivating me.

These last few years, Rosie has shown me more positivity, perseverance, and consistency than I could have imagined. It is easy to preach those things. It is another thing to watch someone live them out every single day. Seeing her go keeps me going. I have got no excuse to slow down when she is not slowing down.

That is what great students do to you eventually. They push you forward.

Rosie was asked what she'd want parents to stop doing. The answer was immediate.

Stop making things too easy for your children. Life will be hard regardless. The question is whether your child learns to navigate difficulty now, with support, or gets blindsided by it when the stakes are real. Our tutors see this every week. The students who are shielded from challenge are the ones who struggle most when it counts.

You want to help your child succeed? Stop watching from the sidelines.

Get in the room. Whether it's sport, a music lesson, or a tutoring session, do it alongside them. Understand it at their level. Show them the learning is yours too. The students who feel the most supported are not the ones whose parents paid for the best tuition. They are the ones whose parents showed up.

One of the things I love most about Tom is how he teaches.

He doesn't just sit across from a student and run through content. He builds a community where no one ever feels alone in this. He tells his own story of feeling defeated so students know it's possible to come back from that.

I've watched kids walk in with him in Year 5 and walk out in Year 12 completely different people. More confident. More disciplined. More themselves.
