In 2023 St Aloysius College proudly takes a bold step towards the future, becoming the first Catholic co-education secondary School within the vibrant, multi-cultural City of Melbourne. Co-education will commence with the first intake of Year 7 boys in 2023. Subsequent years will continue to welcome boys through the Year 7 intake until St Aloysius becomes fully co-educational towards the end of the decade in 2028. The Blessing of Unity Dwells Amongst Us.

This morning’s Father’s Day Breakfast celebrated the fathers, carers and father-figures who are such an important part of the St Aloysius College community.

We were privileged to hear from Professor Mathews Nkhoma, Scott Ellerton and Professor Ramon Spaaij, who offered profound reflections on the values of belonging and community, the power of self-belief and hard work, and the importance of embracing challenges with curiosity.

Their words were a powerful reminder of the role that community plays in helping young people develop confidence, curiosity, a sense of belonging, and the capacity to meet challenges with courage and possibility.

We thank everyone who came together this morning to share in the blessing that is the St Aloysius community. In particular, we extend our heartfelt thanks to our speakers for the gifts of their time and wisdom; our student performers; our staff; and our extremely generous raffle prize donors.

Together, the breakfast and raffle raised more than $2,000 for Mercy Works and Sr Mai Nguyen-Doan’s Sudan Project.

House Performing Arts Competition

After an exciting week of heats, our House Performing Arts Competition reached its highly anticipated final on Monday. Congratulations to every student who took part and shared their talent, creativity and passion throughout the competition. The standard of performances has been outstanding, making for a wonderful celebration of the Performing Arts and our House spirit.

The final performances are now complete, but the result remains a closely guarded secret to be revealed at a future assembly! Which House will take home the title?

History made.

St Aloysius College is thrilled to celebrate alongside Year 12 student, Fadzai Bako, who has once again been named the Plain English Speaking Award (PESA) Victorian State Champion, becoming the first student to win the title back-to-back.

Fadzai competed in the PESA competition with her powerful speech, ‘What colour is the headline?’, exploring the impact of negative media representation on African Australian youth, bringing a compelling call for greater responsibility in the way stories are told. Her achievement has now been recognised with the 2026 Victorian title.

Fadzai first competed in PESA as a Year 10 student in 2024, before taking out the Victorian title in 2025.

The achievement is particularly fitting in a year when Fadzai is also serving as one of our 2026 College Co-Captains. Her ability to articulate complex ideas with clarity, conviction and purpose is a quality she brings not only to the public speaking arena, but to her leadership of our College community.

Congratulations, Fadzai. A remarkable achievement, and one that has made St Aloysius College extremely proud.

Altiora Campus Officially Opened

St Aloysius College celebrated a momentous occasion this morning with the official opening of the Altiora Senior Years Campus.

The opening marks a significant milestone in the College’s history, representing years of vision, belief and collaboration to create a contemporary learning environment that will support our students and community for generations to come.

Joining us were members of the St Aloysius community, including staff, Community Connect, Advisory Council and student leadership, alongside the Sisters of Mercy, representatives from Mercy Education Limited, Melbourne Archdiocese Catholic Schools, Victorian Catholic Education Authority (VCEA), and the Catholic Development Fund (CDF).

We were also thrilled to celebrate this special occasion with the teams from SEMZ, Hayball and Building Engineering, whose expertise, dedication and partnership helped bring this vision to life.

The plaque was officially unveiled by Sheena Watt MP, representing the State of Government of Victoria and its support of this transformative project.

As we look toward the future of Catholic education in North Melbourne, Altiora marks the beginning of the next chapter in our enduring Mercy story, inspiring future generations to strive for higher things.

Our Year 12 French students shone at last week's French Model UN, a simulation of the UN General Assembly, but this time, conducted entirely in French over a 6 hour intense and interactive conference.

The Model General Assembly was on the topic of Artificial Intelligence and Sustainable Development: Harnessing the Benefits - Safeguarding Human Rights.
Our students were allocated India, and they thus needed to research India’s position on AI and Human Rights to be able to represent India’s interests.

Not only did our students present beautifully their Position Statement to the Assembly, they also were the first country to lead the moderated Caucus with a courageous challenge to other countries to support their proposed amendment to a clause in the Draft Resolution. Our students could then be seen ‘working the room’ during the unmoderated caucus sessions, gaining support from other countries for their proposed amendments.

India’s proposed amendment to clause 2.5 successfully passed and was voted in as part of the new Resolution.

Our students represented the college with impressive maturity, advanced French skills and a willingness to negotiate and debate on this important global topic.

Excitement is building as our students visited the new Senior Years Campus this morning ahead of its opening in Semester 2.

As preparations continue, students had the opportunity to explore the new learning spaces and become familiar with the facility. With the official opening on 4 August fast approaching, anticipation is growing for this exciting new chapter in the life of the College.

We can't wait to welcome students into the new campus soon!

Great scenes from our Anti-Slavery Op Shop, organised by students following the recent Seeds of Justice Conference.

Inspired by their learning about the impact of fast fashion and modern slavery, students created the Op Shop to encourage more conscious consumer choices while raising funds for ACRATH and supporting its important work.
