♟️ ACC Division 2 Intermediate Chess Champions! 🏆🎉
What does character under pressure look like?
It looks like Tyler, sitting across a chessboard, 25 silent spectators watching, not knowing the entire tournament rested on his next move. 👀🤫
He offered a draw. Twice. His opponent refused. So he fought back, came from behind, and stole the narrowest of victories by just half a point. 💪
That single win handed Simonds the ACC Intermediate Chess Division 2 title at St Bernard’s College. Incredible scenes. 🙌
Huge congratulations to our top four players: ⭐ William Mai, undefeated throughout the entire tournament ⭐ Hayden Situ ⭐ Jack Petrie ⭐ Tyler Diep and of course, the entire team!
These young men didn’t just win a chess tournament; they showed composure, resilience, and the heart of true competitors. Incredibly proud.

🏫 Grade 4 Junior Explorers Day at Simonds ✨
Grade 4 students from Trinity Primary School, Richmond, St Mary’s Thornbury and St Margaret’s Primary School, Maribyrnong got a taste of high school life, spending the day at Simonds. They had a jam-packed day: Food Tech, Science, and Sport, kicking it all off with a warm-up dance hosted by Principal Anastasio! 🕺🎶
👀 If today was anything to go by, we can’t wait to see these young men walk through our doors as Simonds Boys! 💙

🙏 We were honoured to welcome Alan Latu from to speak with our Year 7 & 8 boys as part of our Men of Character program. Alan's message was clear and powerful, Violence is NEVER okay. 🧠 Alan challenges young people to pause, think, and choose wisely before acting on anger or emotion. We believe character is built in those moments of choice, and speakers like Alan help our boys understand the weight of that responsibility.

🙌 Thank you Alan and the , for the incredible work you do across Australia, helping young people make wiser, safer decisions.

Growth Through Service.

Character is built in the moments no one asks for, and our students showed it. 💫

As an inner‑city school connected to our neighbourhood, our Year 11 & 12 Vocational Major students created and donated 'Rough Sleeper Packs' to St Vincent de Paul, supporting the Soup Van and those who need it most.

Acts like this shape men who lead, serve and uplift others. 🌍 🙏

Simonds Day! 🎉
Simonds Day is all about celebrating the spirit, history, and community of our college 🎉💙
We started the day with Mass, then spent the rest of it rotating between carnival rides and pop‑up activities organised by our wonderful teachers! From cooking 👩🍳, chess ♟️, LEGO Masters 🧱, and origami 🐉 to so much more, there was something for everyone. And of course… the carnival favourite: the dunk tank 💦😂
✨ Fun Fact
We are named after Archbishop Justin Daniel Simonds, the first Australian‑born Catholic Archbishop, a major milestone in Australia’s Church history 💛💙❤️

Stacking Up Some Science Fun 🧪😄

Year 7 created vibrant density towers 🌈🔍, stacking colourful liquids to discover which ones sink, which ones float, and why. Students explored how different liquids layer as they sharpened their measurement and observation skills. It was a hands‑on mix of measurement, calculations, observation and scientific thinking. Chemistry has never looked this good!

ACC Open Debating Success for Simonds! 🎉🗣️

A huge congratulations to our Simonds Catholic College debating team, who represented the school proudly at the ACC Open Debating Competition at St Joseph’s College last week.

Competing against strong schools, the boys showcased impressive teamwork, sharp critical thinking, and confident delivery, earning 3rd place in Division 2 👏 An outstanding achievement!

They came prepared with well‑crafted arguments and wowed adjudicators with their quick thinking and strong rebuttals in the final debate. A special shout‑out to Ben Vincent, who was awarded Best Speaker for the final debate, an incredible effort that helped secure the win for Simonds! 🌟

Congratulations to all who participated, outstanding ambassadors for Simonds Catholic College! 💙❤️💛

Our Year 9 Community Services class, Year 12 students, and select artistically inclined students from Years 7–11 have been participating in the Handover HeARTwork Project 🎨❤️.

This project was established by Berni Swinkels, a nurse who felt the bags used to return belongings of the deceased to next of kin stripped the dignity from those who had passed. These bags will be distributed to various hospitals and are intended to provide comfort to those experiencing loss. 🕊️

We hope these small acts of care bring a little light to families during their hardest moments 💙❤️💛

🌲✨ Our Year 7’s had an unforgettable week at Camp Toolangi! Just 90 minutes from Melbourne CBD, this incredible spot, surrounded by the towering giants of the Toolangi State Forest, was the perfect place for adventure and learning. 🚣‍♂️🌊 From canoeing to water rafting to hitting bullseyes in archery 🎯, our students challenged themselves, made memories, and embraced the great outdoors. So proud of their teamwork, courage, and enthusiasm! 💪🌿
