It was a pleasure to visit Pioneer Community Kindergarten during Early Learning Matters Week and spend time with the newly established Bilby Student Council.

The children proudly shared what makes their kindy so special—from introducing me to Demi Dog and showing me their growing cotton plant, to talking about their favourite adventures in the outdoor play area.

What impressed me most was the confidence with which they shared their ideas and asked thoughtful questions. It's a great reminder that even our youngest community members have valuable perspectives, and it's important we take the time to listen.

Thank you to the wonderful educators and students for the warm welcome, and for the incredible work you do to help children learn, grow and thrive.

Yesterday we were delighted to welcome Nigel Dalton MP, Member for Mackay, to join us around our Bilby fire pit for a special conversation about kindergarten.

As part of our newly established Bilby Student Council, the children proudly took the lead, sharing what makes their kindy so special. They enthusiastically introduced Nigel to Demi Dog, showed him our growing cotton plant, talked about the many adventures they have in our beautiful outdoor playground, and eagerly explained why they love coming to kindy each week.

The Student Council members confidently shared their ideas, asked questions and represented the voices of their classmates, demonstrating that children are capable contributors with valuable perspectives to offer. It was wonderful to see them speak with such pride, knowing their thoughts and experiences were genuinely valued by an important community leader.

Thank you, Nigel, for taking the time to listen to our children, celebrate their ideas, and recognise the important role kindergarten plays in helping children grow, belong and thrive.

📣 Free Community Event – Speech and Language Information Session MONDAY August 3rd (tomorrow).

We’re excited to invite our current, past, and future families as well as the wider community to a free session with a Speech Pathologist.

This is a great opportunity to learn more about children’s speech and language development, ask questions, and gain practical tips.
