Since its inception in 1994 as a three day camp for Year 11 students in Townsville, The Engineering Link Group has grown to be the exemplar in Queensland and Australia for introducing secondary school students to the discipline of engineering.

Day 1 of the 2026 Queensland Bridge Competition at QUT (Queensland University of Technology) . We continue to be so grateful to Department of Transport and Main Roads Queensland and Engineers Australia for their wonderful support. So far we've tested over 40 bridges and we are not even half way! Regional testing occurring for the rest of August! Who will take home their share of the $2000 in prize money! Thank you to Dr Mark Limb (Faculty of Engineering and Built Environment - QUT) and Joshua O'Brien (Graduate Engineer - TMR) for sharing the excitement of their professions.

The Engineering Link Group – Queensland Bridge Competition 08/07/2026

The 2026 Queensland Bridge Competition is now open for school registrations, and we'd love to see your students take on the challenge!

This isn't just a bridge-building competition—it's an opportunity for students to experience real engineering. They'll design, test, problem-solve, collaborate, and discover just how creative engineering can be.

✅ Open to Years 5–12
✅ Teams of up to 4 students
✅ FREE to enter
✅ Multiple testing locations across Queensland, starting Aug 10 at QUT (Queensland University of Technology)
✅ $2,000 prize pool
✅ Schools receive an official load hook once registered to help students begin designing their bridge.

Engineering Link Project Returns to QUT in 2026!
We’re excited to announce that the Engineering Link Project is back at QUT Gardens Point in 2026! Mark your calendars for Saturday, 14th March—a full-day, hands-on engineering experience for high school students in Years 9 to 12.

What’s Involved?

- Participate in two practical workshops, each facilitated by QUT Ambassadors and real engineers.
- Choose from a huge range of engineering disciplines: Civil, Mechatronics, Medical, Chemical Process, Aerospace, Electrical, and Mechanical.
- Experience what it’s really like to be an engineer—exciting, challenging, and world-changing!

Who Can Register?

Years 9–10: Introduction to Engineering stream
Years 11–12: Engineering Link Project stream

Excited to announce the winners of the Queensland Bridge Competition for 2025 - "Our Bridge is Stroganoff" from Cannon Hill Anglican College. The team of four year 11 students created a 300g bridge made of only spaghetti that withstood a peak load of 42 kg!
We are very grateful to Transport and Main Roads Queensland, Engineers Australia and QUT High School Student Engagement for their continued support of this competition, and we are looking forward to going again in 2026.

Yesterday we were in Rockhampton, today - Bundaberg. Final day of our Engineering Link Project Roadshow. So grateful to CQUniversity Australia, Transport and Main Roads Queensland and Engineers Australia for supporting this initiative. Shoutout to Prof Ben Taylor at CQU for his vision to help make this roadtrip a reality. Thank you to all of our visiting engineers across the four days - Michael, Piyumi, Paula, Ally and Steve. Thank you also to all of the CQU staff - Ben, Shameen, Kianoush, Hope, Mohammad, Farzeneh, Jay, Kamaran and Ashfaque. See you in Cairns, Emerald, Galdstone and Harvey Bay in 2026.
