Arlos favourite day of the week! 😇

This is a true example of kindness! I wish I knew who they were, who their parents were, just so they could see how much this interaction truly meant.

As Arlo gazed over, his eyes lit up at the sight of three kids playing basketball.
He jumped up and exclaimed that he was "going to play"
I explained that they may have a set game in place right now, but asking never hurts.

So off he went (skipped) to ask if he could join.
To my surprise, the boys were thrilled to invite Arlo into their game.

"Come on then little buddy" one of them exclaimed. I felt my heart warm at the sight of inclusion.
Arlo turned to me, holding a massive "thumbs up" - the smile said it all.

As the game continued, these boys encouraged, taught, and involved Arlo in a way they really didn't have to; Clapping when he caught the ball, teaching him little tricks, encouraging him when he missed his shot, making a game out of the silly throws and laughing alongside him.

They really didn't have to. But they did.

When the time was up, I thanked them for their kindness, but if only they truly knew what that "thank you" really said - how much this meant to Arlo.

If only they knew how he will speak of this moment before he falls asleep at night, he will remember the little jokes when he throws his ball into a hoop, he will look for the kindness these children showed, in other people.

Thank you is not enough. But thank you! 💞

Arlo practising his front flip skills at Bounce, during a mid week play with his new friend made from Gymnastics!

Us fellow home schooling mummas were able to have hot drinks and chats about the importance of Home Education, while our children enjoyed a personal experience playing and bonding over shared interests. Win win win!

🛹 ENJOYING NEW HOBBIES 🚲

Educational & Developmental Benefits

Physical Education
Skate parks provide a high-energy environment that encourages physical activity, building strength, flexibility, endurance, and cardiovascular health. It also helps develop balance, coordination, and motor skills.

Life Skills & Character Building

Resilience and Persistence:
Learning new tricks involves frequent falls and failures. Getting up and trying repeatedly teaches children the value of perseverance, a key component of a growth mindset.

Problem-Solving & Critical Thinking:
Skaters must analyze obstacles, strategize their approach, and adapt their techniques to succeed, which hones critical thinking skills.

Risk Assessment:
The process of learning new skills in a controlled environment helps children develop an understanding of risks and how to manage them, leading to more calculated and safer decisions.

Creativity and Self-Expression:
Action sports are often "freestyle," allowing participants the freedom to develop their own style and approach, fostering creativity and self-expression that can translate to other areas of life.

Social & Community Benefits

Socialization Opportunities:
Skate parks are natural community hubs where young people can meet and bond over a shared passion. They foster social connections and a sense of belonging, especially for those who may not thrive in traditional team sports environments.

Diverse Interactions:
Skate communities typically welcome individuals from diverse backgrounds, ages, and genders, facilitating intercultural communication and understanding in a supportive setting.

Mentorship and Peer Learning:
The informal environment allows for peer-to-peer learning, where experienced skaters often teach newcomers, fostering cooperation and negotiation skills.

Mental & Emotional Benefits

Improved Mental Health:
Skateboarding can act as a stress reliever and an outlet for self-expression, reducing stress and anxiety and boosting mood and overall well-being.

Enhanced Focus:
The activity requires constant attention to balance, movement, and surroundings, which can improve focus and concentration abilities. This can be particularly beneficial for children with conditions like ADHD by supporting emotional regulation and motor domains.

Boosted Self-Confidence:
Each new skill mastered builds self-confidence, a positive outcome that transfers across into other aspects of a child's life.

By using a skate park, homeschooling programs can provide a dynamic, hands-on environment that complements academic learning with practical life skills and physical development. 🤩💫
