One of the papers from my PhD thesis has just been published. Thanks to my wonderful co-authors Peter Veth, Sean Ulm, Richard Fullagar and Kim Akerman.

The longevity of this knife tradition is epic and the evidence is that Thalanyji people have been making and using these knives for more than 1643 generations. As far as we are aware this is the longest shell technology use in the world.

Thanks to Buurabalayji Thalanyji Aboriginal Corporation for all their support for this research.

We have started our artefact of the day again with Rebecca who’s on the lab all alone posting her favourite artefact of the day as she sorts and catalogues historical artefacts from Subiaco Oval.

Artefact of the Day. In these strange times we luckily have some office work to complete as all our fieldwork is postponed at the moment. One of the jobs to complete is sorting though hundreds of historical artefacts from the Subiaco Oval development for DevelepmentWA. Usually we all get to delight in seeing some of these artefacts as we are in the office but Rebecca is solo in the lab so she’s emailing us her favourite artefact of the day.

So here is the first one. Details in the comments
