So how do you make a house?
What are bricks made of?
Can we turn the hay bales into bricks with mud?
These are just some of the questions the children have been exploring today!
Hoses, wheelbarrows, buckets, trucks, shovels, rakes and gloves are just some of the tools we have used today too!

What are the ingredients to make mud?
A bit of sand!
A bit of dirt!
A bit of water!
And a whole lot of fun!
We have mud play every day at Barker Kindergarten but this week following the children’s lead with their curiosity about materials used for construction we have made a super sized mud building zone!

This term, following on from an idea from one of our curious learners the children embarked on an adventure of using recycled paper and other recycled materials to create their own scarecrow. Every week the children come in with new and wonderful ideas. A few weeks ago we used scraps of material to create him some “Dungarees.” This week they spent time creating his head using paper mache as they wanted it to look like a pumpkin. They also created a “Farmer’s Hat” for him. What’s next . . . We will be doing some numeracy activities this week as the children decide on a name for our scarecrow.

Did you know that we are learning about sustainability this Term and investigating what materials we can recycle. Last week we designed a scarecrow and this week we have been using old material offcuts to create him. We are going to stuff him with shredded paper!

The children are searching for the following pre loved clothes to dress him in - A Farmers Shirt, A Tie, A Scarf, A Straw Hat and a pair of Gumboots.

Look who visited us at kindy yesterday. What are they? Can you remember their names? And what is their favourite snack!

We hope our families have had a lovely holiday break. We can’t wait to welcome you all back for a fantastic term of learning. Many literacy adventures await the children on our story tables and we can’t wait to see many of them come to life through the Lit for Life and Dream Big Festivals at the local libraries and Adelaide Festival Centre.
Outside adventures also await as our cubby house has transformed into our own Bunnings Warehouse. We wonder what the children will build and what interesting architectural designs and creations will come to life this term!
